The Goldsboro City Council will hold the first of a series of neighborhood meetings Thursday at 6 p.m.

The public meeting will be held at 100 S. Kornegay St.

The meetings are designed to give residents a chance to address issues they feel are important to their neighborhoods.

Other meetings will be held in the coming weeks around the city.

City Manager Joe Huffman said he sees the meetings as a chance for dialogue between neighborhood residents and city officials.

"We want to get people engaged and tell us what's on their mind," Huffman said.

The meeting's format will include brief words from city officials, followed by group discussions and break-out sessions, which will allow residents the opportunity to meet with city officials in charge of dealing with specific issues.

While no one can say what issues will surface at Thursday's meeting, Huffman said he believes that each meeting will bring up issues unique to particular neighborhoods. He and other city officials said they are expecting attendance at this first meeting to be high and hope that it will serve as a learning experience for future neighborhood discussions.
