Wayne County Historical Society celebrates anniversary

The Wayne County Historical Association will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a reception today at the Wayne County Museum.
The event will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and is open to the public. Refreshments will be served and music from the 1950s will be played to commemorate the Historical Association's founding.
Velda Faye Howell helped organize the event.
"I like history, and knowing what was going on. I have this little favorite saying that says, 'When we lose sight of our past, we lose the ability to approach the future intelligently.' That's one of my favorite things when we talk about history," Mrs. Howell said.
The Wayne County Historical Assocation was founded in 1955. Twenty individuals have served as president, from M.B. Andrews to current president Louis Marriner Jr. The organization has helped shape history itself, with the Wayne County Museum begun in 1986 after the Goldsboro Woman's Club donated the building. Also, the Old Dobbs Genealogical Society was begun under the Historical Association's auspices.
The Wayne County Museum is located at 116 N. William St., on the corner of Mulberry.
