Drug traffickers
Three men were arrested Wednesday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad after a joint undercover investigation, and they were charged with trafficking in cocaine.
Miguel Rodriguez, 25, of Cornerstone Drive, Seven Springs, and Jaime Alejandro Martinez Sanchez, 28, of County Hill Lane, Newton Grove, were charged with trafficking in cocaine by possession, sale, delivery and transporting and conspiracy to traffic in more than 400 grams of cocaine.
Rodriguez was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,050,000 secured bond. Sanchez was jailed in lieu of a $600,000 secured bond.
Cetowayo Hatcher, 33, of Stanley Chapel Church Road, Dudley, was charged with trafficking in cocaine by possession, sale and delivery and conspiracy to traffic in more than 400 grams of cocaine. He was jailed in lieu of a $400,000 secured bond.
Rodriguez was arrested in Mount Olive, Sanchez was arrested at Hatcher's home and Hatcher was picked up at his job site in Faison.
Officers from the Raleigh office of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the State Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation and arrest.
Call leads to arrest
A 23-year-old man was arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police after the owner of an out-of-gas pickup truck saw the suspect trying to steal his stereo.
Christopher Taylor of Indian Springs Road, Seven Springs, was charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $6,000 secured bond.
The truck's owner, Nicholas White of Seven Springs, had coasted into the old Happy Store parking lot at 1100 N. Berkeley Blvd. He then started to walk to the nearby Lowe's Home Improvement store to call someone to bring him gas, the report said.
When White returned to his truck, he saw someone inside trying to remove his stereo. White called 911, and the suspect fled toward Central Heights Road.
Officer Richard Nash arrived at the truck and broadcast the suspect's description. Moments later, Officer A. Fowler saw a man walking through a trailer park on Central Heights Road. The man was detained, later identified as the thief, then arrested and charged.
Three break-ins
A Goldsboro teenager, already arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office for a break-in, was charged again Wednesday by Goldsboro police for 12 felony offenses, including three more break-ins.
Leamon C. Holmes, 18, of Woodrose Drive was accused of breaking into a business on Parkway Drive and two vehicles in Mimosa Park, Investigator G.N. Lynch said.
Holmes was arrested Monday after he fled from a traffic stop initiated by police. Sheriff's Deputy Maurice Cox detained Holmes a short time later and charged him in connection with the traffic stop.
Then Holmes was questioned by police investigators and sheriff's detectives. Later Monday, stolen property was recovered from break-ins in the county, and Holmes was charged.
Police charged Holmes with two counts of breaking and entering of a vehicle; one count of attempted larceny, breaking and entering and larceny, and seven counts of financial transaction card theft. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
15 hurt in wrecks
Fifteen people were injured and damages were estimated at $58,100 in 12 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Two people were injured in a two-car collision at 11:44 p.m. Wednesday on Hugh Street near Olivia Lane, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Demario Ramon Accoo, 26, of Dawson Drive, and his passenger, Taneeya Artis, 21, of Hugh Street, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other driver, Travis Graham, 18, of North Alabama Avenue, was charged with not having an operator's license and failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were set at $4,000.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 7:20 a.m. Saturday at N.C. 111 and Scott Street, the Highway Patrol said. Deborah P. Williams, 47, of Pineview Cemetery Road, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Linda W. Morrison, 58, of Rollingwood Drive, Dudley, was charged with an improper turn. The report said Ms. Morrison started to a make right turn from the left lane and her van collided with Ms. Williams' pickup truck. Damages were set at $4,300.
*Damages were estimated at $10,000 in a one-car wreck at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 222 near Peacock Street, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Billy Melvin Harvey, 59, of West South Street, Fremont, was charged with exceeding a safe speed. His car ran off the right side of the wet road in a curve, the report said, and struck a power pole.
*Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 7:30 a.m. Friday on U.S. 117 near Mount Carmel Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Donna B. Lanier, 48, of Wilson Street, and a passenger in the other vehicle, Dana Barrett, 17, of Nahunta Road, Pikeville, were released after emergency-room treatment. Barrett's driver, William Kenan Barnett Jr., 16, of Pelt Road, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. Damages were put at $4,000.
*Damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 3:20 p.m. Friday at U.S. 117 South and U.S. 117 Alternate, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, James Matthey Brogden, 20, of Stevens Mill Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other motorist was identified as Deborah F. Royall, 47, of South Johnson Street, Mount Olive.
*A driver was injured in a two-car crash at 3 p.m. Friday at South John Street and N.C. 581, or Arrington Bridge Road, the Highway Patrol said. Tamya Marisa Coley, 39, of Carmel Lane was released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Timothy Darrell Armwood, 32, of South Slocumb Street, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash and driving while his license was revoked. Damages were set at $50.
*Two people were injured in a one-truck wreck at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 25 on Manley Grove Church Road near Corbett Hill Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, James Christopher Howard, 16, of Country Club Road, Mount Olive, and his passenger, Justin Sutton, 16, of Corbett Hill Road, Mount Olive, were released after emergency-room treatment. No charges were filed. Howard told troopers that he swerved to avoid a dog and lost control of the pickup and it ran off the left side into a ditch. Damage was fixed at $3,500.
*Two people from Fremont were injured in a one-car wreck at 5:09 a.m. Aug. 25 on Norwayne School Road near Ballance Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Amanda Marie Davis, 17, of South Pine Street, and her passenger, Victoria McGrew, 17, of East Main Street, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Davis was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The report said the car entered a sharp curve, ran off the right side and struck a ditch. The car, valued at $2,800, was demolished.
*Two people were injured in a one-car crash at 3:05 a.m. Aug. 24 on Emmaus Church Road near Sleepy Creek Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, William Bradley Murray Jr., 26, and his passenger, Benjamin Sumner, 34, both of Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Murray was charged with reckless driving and suspicion of driving while impaired. The report said the car ran off the right side in a curve, the driver overcorrected, and the car crossed the center line, ran off the left side and struck a tree. Damage was set at $4,200.
*A passenger was injured in a three-vehicle collision at 3:45 p.m. Aug. 24 on Genoa Road near Woodland Acres Avenue, the Highway Patrol said. Michael Sutton, 38, of Annies Drive, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. The first driver, Judy H. O'Brien, 58, of U.S. 13 South, Dudley, and Sutton's driver, Sean Edward Best, 16, of Genoa Road, Dudley, were stopping as the railroad crossing light came on. The third motorist, Nicholas Edwin Clinton Alejandro, 19, of Cornfield Drive, Dudley, could not stop in time. No charges were filed. Damages were fixed at $4,550.
*Two drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $5,500 in a three-vehicle crash at 10 a.m. Aug. 23 on U.S. 70 near Claridge Nursery Road, the Highway Patrol said. Christie Marie Wellons, 36, of Martin Livestock Road, Princeton, and Gene Turner Dail, 58, of Bartlett Road, Pikeville, were released after emergency-room treatment. The third driver, Harry Drexal West, 87, of U.S, 70 West, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash.
*Damages were estimated at $8,700 in a two-car collision at 12:50 p.m. Aug. 20 at Rosewood Road and Autumn Winds Drive, the Highway Patrol said. One motorist, Andrew Kerner Pitzer, 24, of Davis Mill Road, Fremont, was charged with improper passing. The report said Davis was passing as the other driver, Judy Marie Marshall, 52, of Twin Oak Drive, was starting to make a left turn into Autumn Winds Drive. The impact forced the car that Pitzer was driving into a power pole.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A Poulan lawn tractor, a tiller, a pressure washer, an air compressor and a weed trimmer were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from a yard in the 1200 block of LaGrange Road, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Prentice J. Newsome, put a $3,152 value on his property.
*A case with 10 compact discs was stolen Wednesday after a car window was smashed in the 100 block of Durham Lake Road, deputies said. The property, owned by William Hayward Marrow of Goldsboro, was valued at $60. Damage was set at $150.
*A Cobra mini-dirt motorcycle was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from the 1200 block of N.C. 222 West, deputies said. The owner and resident, Autry Hoy Green, said the bike was worth $550.
Break-ins
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A combination radio, compact disc player and tape player was stolen between Aug, 22 and Wednesday from an apartment in the 1700 block of East Maple Street, police said. The thief had entered through an unlocked window and had damaged two doors and three walls and ransacked the home, the report said. A car window also was smashed, but nothing was stolen. The resident, Joy Bailey, put a $145 value on the stolen property and estimated damages at $600.
*A television was stolen between Friday and Wednesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 300 block of North James Street, police said. The owner, Michael Queen of Lake Wiley, S.C., said the TV was worth $200 and estimated damage at $25. Another nearby home that he owns also was entered, but nothing was missing.
Missing
Two teenagers were reported missing Wednesday by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
*Latashi Lashon Simms, 14, of 183 Guinevere Lane, LaGrange, was described as black, 4-feet-8 and 116 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. When the Belfast Academy student was seen last at 6:45 a.m., she was wearing an orange and white shirt, white pants and black and white tennis shoes.
*Gregory Delon Holloman, 13, of 103 Trailwood Drive, Dudley, was described as black, 5-feet-5 and 160 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes. When the Southern Academy student was seen last at 8:25 p.m., he was wearing a red shirt over a white shirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes.
Anyone with information on the location of either teen was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
