Accidents
A pedestrian was injured and damages were estimated at $10,400 in three recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A Habitat for Humanity truck was too high to squeeze under the low railroad bridge on North Carolina Street and was damaged in the attempt at 2:57 p.m. Monday, Goldsboro police said. The driver, Judith Kaye McVerry, 55, of Selah Church Road, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The truck sustained about $5,000 in damages. The bridge is 7-feet, 6-inches above the street.
*Damages were estimated at $5,400 in a two-vehicle collision at 6:50 p.m. Saturday at Airport and Big Daddy's roads, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver, Pamela Renee Mitts, 42, of N.C. 111 North, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. The report said the car that she was driving collided with an eastbound pickup truck that was driven by June D. Thornton, 56, of Pinkney Church Road, Fremont.
*An 8-year-old boy crossing Memorial Church Road near N.C. 581 was struck by a pickup truck and injured at 8:02 a.m. Aug. 11, the Highway Patrol said. Gregory Scott Riggs of Woodcroft Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The report said the eastbound driver, Larry Donnell Newsome, 43, of Memorial Church Road, Fremont, had slowed to pass a stopped vehicle that was partially in the road and the boy got out of the vehicle and started across the road. No charges were filed. Newsome's pickup was not damaged.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*An estimated $4,053 worth of property was stolen between Aug. 11 and Monday from an apartment in the 4100 block of U.S. 70 East, Goldsboro police said. The thieves had damaged a gate and a door to get inside and also damaged property once inside, the report said. Two televisions, computer equipment, a radio and compact disc player, two guitars, clothing, a video cassette recorder, a camcorder, a karaoke machine, tools and other items were stolen. Damage at the Allen Dail home was set at $205.
*A computer, a television, video-game equipment, a DVD player and change were stolen Monday after a door was damaged at an apartment in the 800 block of South Randolph Street, police said. The residents, Jennifer Hardin and Stewart Williams, estimated the value of the stolen property at $3,210 and damage at $200.
*A metal safe with about $502 was stolen between Aug. 12 and Monday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Mobile Circle, sheriff's deputies said. The safe, which sustained about $200 in damages, was recovered.
Drug charges
A 30-year-old Goldsboro woman was arrested Monday night by Goldsboro police on West Ash Street and charged with three felony drug offenses.
Titana Parker of Boxwood Lane was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of cocaine. She also was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Larceny charges
Two men were arrested Monday by Goldsboro police and charged with stealing property from their place of employment, the Target store on Sunburst Drive.
Kevin McRae, 19, of West Lockhaven Drive and Chico Atkinson, 30, of Second Street, Princeton, were charged with felony larceny by an employee. Each man was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond.
They were accused of stealing video-game equipment and a wireless remote, valued at a combined $385.
