The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County want to work with volunteers from college and high school clubs. Boys & Girls Club spokesman Sarah Wheeler said volunteers are needed to work with children on a weekly and monthly basis to develop relationships.
"Our main concern is to help the child develop healthy habits and relationships with adults," she said. "The more adults that care about this child will foster a greater chance of them succeeding later in life."
She suggested a good time for volunteers to work with the children is a program called Our Power Hour, which is held during the school year. These volunteers would help the children one-on-one with homework.
"That way they will be able to ask questions, get positive feedback, and be able to move along if there are any areas they are having problems with," she said.
