Fair Share donors get chance to win a car

Wayne County residents once again have the opportunity to win a new vehicle during this year's United Way campaign.
Hal Howard, owner of Goldsboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep, has donated a 2005 PT Cruiser as part of the Fair Share Challenge. Everyone who gives their fair share (one hour's pay per month for one year) will be entered into a drawing for the vehicle.
There will be 11 finalists. The first finalist will be drawn at the Taste of Wayne Aug. 30. The next 10 finalists will be drawn on Saturdays at the dealership starting Sept. 10. The last finalist will be drawn Nov. 12. They don't have to be present to win.
The 11 finalists will draw for the vehicle Nov. 19. They do have to be present to win.
The winner of a 2004 Dodge Dakota tuck last year was Rebeca Huerta, an employee with Uchiyama America.
Howard said he is donating the PT Cruiser because "as a resident and active business owner in the community, I accept my responsibility to support organizations, like the United Way, in their efforts to provide help and support to those in need. I see this as a way to play a small part in creating a buzz to hopefully increase participation in the Fair Share Challenge being promoted."
He said he decided to donate a vehicle to United Way for a second year because his participation last year was "extremely rewarding on both a person and a professional level and I am anxious to build on that success."
He said his goal is to "ensure that the United Way continues to exceed its annual goals and to contribute in any way that I can, as should all good corporate citizens."
Steve Parr, United Way director, said the Fair Share Challenge, Howard and the dealership had a "big time" affect on the campaign last year. "We saw large increases in employee campaigns as a result of the Fair Share Challenge.
