A suspicious pre-dawn fire destroyed a vacant wood-frame home today at 1117 Olivia Lane and damaged a home next door. An investigation of the cause of the fire has been turned over to police. Fourteen firefighters answered the 2:54 a.m. call with three engines, a ladder and a command car. Lt. Carlton Parks said the one-floor house was engulfed in flames. Firefighters knocked down the blaze in five minutes and put it out in about 30 minutes. "They did a good job -- they always do," Parks said. The home was valued at about $30,000. No contents were inside. The homeowner lives in Durham, Parks said. The home next door at 1119 Olivia Lane sustained about $2,500 in damage from heat exposure.
