Man is charged
in thefts, assault
A 45-year-old Dudley man was arrested by Wayne County sheriff's detectives and charged with multiple offenses in connection with two weekend vehicle thefts and an assault.
Donnie Ray Ivey of Potts Road was accused of stealing a vehicle, assaulting the victim and taking his checkbook on Saturday, Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said. Ivey then allegedly forged and passed several of the victim's checks in Wayne County. The vehicle was later returned to the owner, Farfour said.
Ivey was charged with felony larceny of a vehicle and five felony counts each of forgery and uttering.
Ivey also was accused of forcing his way into a man's home in Dudley, holding the 65-year-old victim against his will, assaulting him with a vase, threatening him with a butcher knife and stealing a second vehicle and $120, Detective Sgt. Mike Kabler said. The victim required hospital treatment.
Ivey was arrested with the vehicle in Scotland County. He was returned to Goldsboro, where he was placed in the Wayne County Jail. The second vehicle also was returned to the owner.
Ivey was charged with six felony offenses in the second case -- first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping, armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, larceny of a vehicle and possession of stolen goods.
Ivey was held in lieu of a $500,000 secured bond.
City truck,
car collide
Both drivers were injured Monday when a Goldsboro city truck collided with a car at U.S. 117 South and Old Grantham Road, according to a Highway Patrol report released today.
The truck driver, Billy Ray Langston, 44, of South Best Street, and the driver of the car, Melissa Ann Wright, 28, of Green Valley Drive, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Langston told troopers he was trying to avoid another vehicle at about 9:55 a.m. and the truck overturned into Ms. Wright's stopped, eastbound auto. Langston was charged with failure to reduce speed.
Damage was estimated at $4,000 to the truck and $6,000 to the car.
In other collisions:
*Damages were estimated at $6,100 in a two-vehicle crash at 11:03 p.m. Wednesday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Cashwell Drive, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Ronald Michael Knighting Jr., 20, of Davis Road, Snow Hill, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other southbound motorist was identified as Richard Roe Mann, 45, of Smith Logging Lane.
*A southbound pickup truck ran off the left side and struck a power pole at 6:30 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 117 near Stoney Creek Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Jesse Lamont Crocker, 50, of U.S. 117 North, was charged with driving left of center. Damages were put at $5,500.
*Four people were injured and a car was demolished in a wreck at 5:46 p.m. Sunday on Casey Mill Road near Emmaus Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Kevin Dwayne Barwick, 34, of Frank Barwick Road, LaGrange, and his passengers, Katrina Sigmon, 31, Amber Sigmon, 5, and Brittany Sigmon, 9, all of Les Lane, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Barwick was charged with exceeding a safe speed after his car ran off the left side in a curve, struck a ditch and overturned, the report said.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Gunshots shattered three windows at the Comco gas station at 301 W. Grantham St., Goldsboro police said. Damages were set at $250. Eleven shots hit the business, the report said.
*About $20 worth of food was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from Goldsboro Middle School at 801 N. Lionel St., police said. The thieves also damaged a vending machine glass, a video camera and six door handles. Damages were about $130.
*Eight hog feeders were stolen Wednesday from Jackson and Sons Prestige Farms on Sanderson Road, sheriff's deputies said. The hog feeders were valued at $2,300.
