Trio caught in
armed holdups;
another sought
Two Goldsboro teenagers were arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police and charged with three armed robberies of restaurant delivery men.
Derek Andre Kornegay, 18, of South Herman Street, and Gilbert McNeil III, 19, of Olivia Lane, were placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $100,000 secured bonds.
Police also are seeking a third man, Julian Sauls, 19, of Hugh Street, in connection with the holdups.
The two men were developed as suspects as the crimes were investigated. Police obtained a search warrant for a house on South Herman Street, about a block from where the food orders were delivered. Police seized evidence belonging to the three victims from the home.
The first robbery occurred July 14, when Daniel Newton was delivering an order for Pizza Hut to Bright Street. Then on Friday, Michael McCrae was robbed while delivering an order for Pizza Hut to the same address. The last robbery took place Sunday when Futt Suan Wong delivered an order to Evergreen Avenue.
Anyone with information on Sauls' location was asked to call police Investigator Mike Horstmann at 580-4213 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous.
Liquor theft
A quick response to a predawn burglar alarm enabled Goldsboro police to arrest two teenagers and charge them with the break-in and theft of liquor from the ABC store at 1316 W. Grantham St.
When D-shift officers arrived at about 3 a.m., they found that the front window had been shot out, the store had been entered and several bottles of liquor had been stolen.
The officers searched the area with the help of Wayne County sheriff's deputies, found the suspect vehicle and arrested two people at a home in the 300 block of South Virginia Street.
The resident, Jamal Raynor, 19, and Devon Swain, 19, of West Chestnut Street were charged with two felonies, breaking and entering and larceny. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.
The stolen liquor was valued at $70. Damages were estimated at $300 to the store.
4 hurt in wrecks
Four people were injured in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Two people in a car were injured in a collision with a tractor-trailer truck at 12:36 a.m. Tuesday at N.C. 111 and Townsend Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Roberto Ismael Lopez Hernandez, 30, of Clover Drive, Mount Olive, was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. His passenger, Roxane Orozco, 27, of Price Road, Seven Springs, was treated and released from the hospital. The trucker, Curtis Wayne Hunter, 49, of Norlina, was charged with driving left of center. The report said Hunter had pulled from the side road and the big collided with the northbound car. Damages were set at $9,000.
*Damages were estimated at $9,500 in a two-car, hit-and-run collision at 11:53 p.m. Tuesday on Fairview Circle near Edgerton Street, Goldsboro police said. A parked car, registered to Telly Savalas Parker of Wilson, sustained about $7,000 in damages. The other car was found at North Jefferson Avenue and East Ash Street. Police said it was registered to Baylorn Norman of Youngsville.
*A driver was injured at 11 a.m. Monday, when the tractor-trailer truck that he was driving ran off the right side of on U.S. 13 near Charles Massey Road, the Highway Patrol said. Dwayne Ervin Rhodes, 27, of Old Kenly Road, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with a safe-movement violation. He said he had swerved to avoid what might have been an animal in the road. Damage was put at $2,000.
*A motorist was injured and damages were estimated at $7,300 in a two-car crash at 7:50 a.m. Monday at Old Grantham Road and Somerset Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Cessely Nychelle Williams, 25, of Shaw Court was released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Williams, who was pulling from Somerset Court, was charged with a yield violation after her car collided with an eastbound auto. The other driver was listed as William Jeremy Alexander, 23, of Third Street.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A Dell laptop computer and about $25 were stolen between Monday and Tuesday from Garris Chapel Church at 823 Piney Grove Church Road, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had damaged doors to get inside. Evidence was recovered at the church, the report said. The computer was valued at $1,500. Damage was set at $330.
*Two weed trimmers, two chain saws, a backpack blower and a generator were stolen between July 20 and Tuesday from a trailer in the 200 block of Circle Drive, deputies said. The resident, Randy Alan Gray, put a $2,850 value on his property.
*A blue and white Yamaha dirt bike was stolen between July 1 and Tuesday from a locked shed in the 1300 block of Country Club Road, deputies said. The resident, Newlon M. Overman Jr., said the bike was worth $4,360.
*Fifteen windows and 10 screens were damaged between July 23 and Tuesday at a home in the 2600 block of Nahunta Road, deputies said. The owner, Thomas Edward Fereza of Oxford estimated damage at $4,520.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A car stereo, a leather bag and a cell phone were stolen Tuesday after a car window was broken in the 300 block of North Jefferson Avenue, police said. The resident and owner, William E. Davis, estimated the value of the stolen property at $480 and damage at $50.
*A boom box, a phone and change were stolen after a camera and a door were damaged at Jackson Auto Repair at 209 E. Vine St., police said. The stolen property was valued at about $90. Damages were set at $189. The thieves also shattered a window, inflicting about $125 in damage to a car, owned by Dennis Cooper of Dudley.
*A purse with personal papers was stolen between Monday and Tuesday after two car windows were smashed in the 700 block of Prince Avenue, police said. The resident, Alexis Briley, put a $25 value on the purse. Damage was set at $200.
Truck stolen
A pickup truck that was stolen from the 1600 block of Big Daddy's Road was recovered Tuesday by authorities in a field in Greene County, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
The owner and resident, Thad Michael Lancaster, told deputies that he had left the key in the truck Monday night. Lancaster's father reported that he had seen the truck in a church parking lot, but when deputies arrived there, it was gone.
Later the tool boxes that were in the truck were found in the yard of an abandoned house on Lane Town Road, the report said. When the truck was found, it had broken glass in the bed and the keys inside. Other evidence was found nearby and collected.
Goldsboro police, Greene County sheriff's deputies and state Motor Vehicles Department officers assisted in the investigation.
Drug charge
A 21-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Tuesday night by Goldsboro police on West Grantham Street and charged with a felony drug offense.
Javon M. Gibbs of Rockefeller Court was charged with possession of cocaine and larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,300 secured bond.
