Mount Olive reports sewage spill

MOUNT OLIVE -- Town officials released a notice Monday that about 201,000 gallons of sewage and rain water spilled from the Mount Olive wastewater treatment system Friday, and about 156,000 gallons reached surface waters.
The notice is required by state law whenever spills surpass 1,000 gallons.
Mount Olive had several wastewater spills from overflowing manholes during the downpour that dumped four inches of rain on the town in one hour.
Town officials said they are planning to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant and are continuing to repair and replace aging lines in their efforts to reduce inflow and infiltration and prevent future spills.
