Driver arrested
on Wilson County
rape charge
PRINCETON -- When Princeton police investigated the criminal record of an alleged speeding driver on Sunday, an officer found the driver was wanted in Wilson County on a 4-year-old sex charge.
Officer John Little said he clocked a westbound driver at 73 mph in a 55-mph zone on U.S. 70. As the driver passed the officer, the Chevrolet C1500 ran off the right side of the road and then was jerked back on the road. The driver stopped at Holt's Pond.
The driver, Arthur Lee Braswell, 39, of Elm City registered .13 percent blood-alcohol content in the field. When Little took him to the Johnston County Jail in Smithfield, Braswell registered .09 percent. A reading of .08 percent or higher is considered impaired under North Carolina law.
Little then discovered that Braswell's license had been permanently revoked for three convictions each of driving while impaired and driving while his license was revoked.
Braswell was charged with driving while impaired, driving while his license was revoked and speeding. He was jailed in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond.
Then when Little routinely checked Braswell's record, he found that the defendant had been wanted since July 7, 2001, on felony charges of first-degree child rape and indecent liberties with a minor. Braswell's bond on those charges was set at $100,000.
Four-wheeler theft
A red 2005 Honda four-wheeler was stolen before dawn today from Fun Products at 2803 Royall Avenue, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Police responded to a burglar alarm at 2:33 a.m. and found that a thief had smashed a brick wall with a vehicle and had broken out two windows and a door glass. Damages were estimated at $10,000. The four-wheeler was valued at $6,700.
Drug charge
A 24-year-old man was arrested before dawn today by Wayne County sheriff's deputies and charged with a felony drug offense.
Jonathan Lee Wiggs of East Evans Road, Princeton, was charged with possession of cocaine on Perkins Mill Road. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $3,000 secured bond.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*About $1,825 worth of property was stolen Monday from a home in the 100 block of Spring Branch Road, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, John David Cormier, reported the theft of two televisions, food, kitchen supplies, a stereo system, medicine, two tables, a cabinet and $500 in cash. No sign of forced entry was reported.
*Five windows at the Food Lion supermarket and two windows at the Movie Gallery store in the 200 block of N.C. 111 South were damaged before dawn today by gunfire, Goldsboro police said. Damages were estimated at $1,050 at Food Lion and $250 at the Movie Gallery.
*A shotgun was stolen between Monday and dawn today after a door was damaged at a home in the 400 block of Charles Street, police said. The resident, T.A. Moss, said the firearm was worth $200 and set damage at $50.
*A woman's purse with $22 was stolen between Monday and dawn today after a cinderblock was thrown through a car window, police said. The purse, without the cash, was found on Courtyard Circle, where police investigated a disturbance, and was returned to the owner, Florosa Lassiter of Goldsboro.
*Two radios were stolen between Friday and Monday after a door was damaged at Chestnut Street Head Start at 505 E. Chestnut St., police said. The radios were valued at $70. Damage was set at $200. A thief also stole $3 between Friday and Monday after forcing a door open at Dillard Academy at 504 W. Elm St., police said.
*Four vending machines were stolen Sunday from Sunrise Laundromat at 306 N. Madison Ave., police said. The machines, owned by A-1 Vending of Goldsboro, were valued at $470. Another machine had about $90 in damages.
*Two televisions, one with a DVD and a video cassette recorder and the other with a VCR and a compact disc player, were stolen between Friday and Saturday after a door was forced open at an apartment in the 300 block of North James Street, police said. The resident, Johnny Ray Lee, put a $300 value on his property.
*Two seven-inch television monitors and a DVD player were stolen Saturday after a truck window was shattered in the Ryan's restaurant parking lot at 600 N. Berkeley Blvd., police said. The owner, William Wayne Goss of Goldsboro, estimated the stolen property's value at $699 and damage at $300.
*A portable DVD player and two DVD movies were stolen Saturday after a vehicle window was smashed in the Target parking lot on Sunburst Drive, police said. The owner, Elizabeth Fleming of Pikeville, estimated the stolen property's value at $190 and damage at $300.
*A pressure washer, a cordless drill and a grinder were stolen between July 17 and Monday from Arnold Wilbert Inc. at 1401 W. Grantham St., police said. The property was valued at $1,250.
*A wallet with $6 and personal papers was stolen between Saturday and Sunday after a vehicle window was broken in the 200 block of South Jefferson Avenue, police said. The owner, Chester Moore of Goldsboro, estimated damage at $400.
*About $12 worth of candy was stolen Monday after a door was damaged at an apartment in the 400 block of North Carolina Street, police said. The resident, P.N. Champion, set damage at $125.
Sex charges
A teenager was arrested Monday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with two felony counts of statutory rape.
Ryan Lonelle Rouse, 18, of Talbert Drive was accused of two sexual assaults on a 13-year-old girl in July, Detective Sgt. Tammy Odom said. No threats of violence or firearms were involved, reports said. Rouse was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
Stolen truck
A stolen truck was recovered Saturday, and a man was arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with possession of it.
Vansdaile King Faison of Goldsboro reported to Goldsboro police that his 1988 GMC S-15 truck had been stolen. Then a woman told sheriff's deputies that a man had been banging on her door in Dudley. When the officers responded, they found a man in the truck at the home.
The man then fled into woods, but he was captured quickly. Danny Lee McCullen Jr., 35, of Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, was charged with possession of the stolen truck. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Two charged
Two young men have been arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department on U.S. 117 South and charged with weapons violations.
Recco Demel Rowe, 20, of Friendship Drive, Fremont, and Brandon Demarcus Haynes, 17, of Timberland Oaks Drive were charged with felony possession of a stolen firearm and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of an $11,000 secured bond.
Collision
Damages were estimated at $8,400 in a collision between a car and two motorcycles July 25 at N.C. 111 and Spring Bank Road, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver, Edna Moye Joyner, 78, of Spring Bank Road, was charged with a yield violation.
The report said Ms. Joyner was making a left turn and her car collided with two oncoming, southbound motorcycles. The bikes were operated by Robin Lore Lee, 25, of Jacksonville and Jim Edward Merrill, 39, of Camp Lejeune.
