Robberies
Three men were robbed over the weekend in separate holdups, according to reports.
A man was assaulted and robbed Saturday night of cash and his car, and then the suspect bought drugs with the stolen money and smoked it in front of the victim, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Fitzhugh Melvin Pierce of Dudley told deputies that the suspect came at about 8:30 p.m. to his home on U.S. 13 South, later struck him on the head with a ceramic vase, demanded Pierce's money and threatened to kill him. Pierce gave the man $120, and the suspect then called a drug dealer, the report said, bought cocaine and smoked it. The suspect then grabbed Pierce's car keys, cut the phone lines and fled, the report said. Pierce went to a neighbor's house and called authorities. Pierce was treated for his injuries and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokesman said. The car was found in Tanglewood Mobile Home Park. Donnie Ray Ivey, 45, of Potts Road, Dudley, was arrested in Scotland County, where he was held on unrelated charges, the report said.
A man delivering Chinese food was robbed Sunday night of $20 and his cell phone in the 1000 block of Evergreen Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Futt Suan Wong, 49, told officers that as he pulled into a driveway, he was confronted by four black men, one holding a handgun. One suspect grabbed the food, and another got the phone and cash. The robbers fled. No description was given.
Juan Vasquez Mendoza, 33, of Pikeville was robbed Sunday of a cell phone, a $100 bill and his wallet with personal papers, police said. Mendoza reported that two black men came to his motel room door at about 6 a.m., then struck him, stole his property and fled. He could not describe the robbers. Mendoza was treated for his injuries and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Apartment fire
A vacant apartment at 1110-B Slaughter St. was damaged heavily Sunday in a predawn fire that remains under investigation by authorities. Goldsboro Assistant Fire Chief Gary Whaley said unauthorized people may have been staying in the apartment. Police are investigating. Sixteen firefighters answered the 1:12 a.m. call. Damage was estimated at $10,000 to the apartment and $2,000 to contents. The building, valued at $50,000, contained five apartments and was owned by Albert Daye of Goldsboro. The other occupants escaped unharmed.
11 hurt in wrecks
Eleven people were injured and damages were estimated at $49,600 in eight recent traffic accidents in Wayne County.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $9,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 5:16 p.m. Sunday at U.S. 70 East and N.C. 111 South, Goldsboro police said. Idith Garcia Estrada, 21, of Bill Creek Road, LaGrange, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was charged with a stoplight violation and not having an operator's license.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $8,900 in a three-vehicle crash at 4:25 p.m. Sunday on South Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway near Carver Boulevard, police said. William Lee Kates Jr., 34, and his passenger, Barbara Kates, 36, both of Eagle Ridge Drive, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Gevankco Jones Flagg, 40, of Mill Creek Court, was charged with failure to reduce speed, driving while impaired and no operator's license.
*A pedestrian was struck by a car at 2:40 p.m. Sunday at North John and Ash streets, police said. Betty Faye Miller, 50, of North Leslie Street was released after emergency-room treatment. Obispo Fermin Tzun-Quin, 25, of Emmaus Church Road, Mount Olive, was charged with hit and run with personal injury and a stoplight violation. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under $5,000 bond.
*Three people were injured and damages were set at $6,500 in a two-car accident at 12:55 p.m. Thursday at N.C. 581 and Old N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. Cynthia Ruth Lewis, 39, and her passenger, Erica Lewis, 7, both of Biltmore Drive, and a passenger in the other car, Connie R. Hinton, 44, of Raleigh, were released after emergency-room treatment. Otis Colvin Jr., 57, of Raleigh, was charged with a stop-sign violation.
*A driver was injured at 9:52 a.m. Thursday when her car collided with a front-end loader on Big Daddy's Road near Antioch Road, the Highway Patrol said. Robbie Lynn Dudley, 45, of Greenville was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with improper passing. Damages were put at $1,200.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $10,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 4:10 p.m. Thursday at Camp Jubilee and Zion Church roads, the Highway Patrol said. Pearl Mae J. Ammons, 60, of Willie Best Road, Mount Olive, and her passenger, Keith Ammons, 43, of St. Robert, Mo., were released after emergency-room treatment. Janet W. Price, 40, of Thurman Herring Road, Mount Olive, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign.
*Damages were set at $8,000 in a two-car, hit-and-run accident at 3 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 117 and Country Club Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver fled on foot. The other driver was listed as Amanda Renee Truzy, 21, of East Williamson Street, Mount Olive.
*A driver was injured and the car that she was driving was demolished in a wreck at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday on Dollard Town Road, the Highway Patrol said. Corinna Irene Rios, 18, of Sevendales Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The car was valued at $6,000.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A 20-gauge shotgun, a television and a video cassette recorder were stolen Friday after a door was damaged at a home in the 1900 block of Mark Edwards Road. The resident, W.F. Johnson, estimated the value of the stolen property at $400 and damage at $200.
*A combination digital camera and camcorder, a .357 handgun, three watches, two DVD movies and a satellite card were stolen from a home in the 200 block of Miller Road. Bulla John Holladay, valued his property at $985.
*Video-game equipment, 36 compact discs and six DVDs were stolen between Tuesday and Friday from a home in the 300 block of U.S. 13 South, deputies said. The resident, Douglas Harrell, put a $1,610 value on the stolen property.
*About $200 in coins was stolen Saturday after a window was broken in Stonewell's restaurant on Hood Swamp Road. Damage was estimated at $50.
