MOUNT OLIVE -- The only uncontested race in Mount Olive so far is the upcoming battle for the mayor's job.

Mount Olive Mayor Ruff Huggins filed for re-election early in the filing period, which closes at noon Aug. 5. He remained unopposed at the end of the day Monday.

Rick Kraft is challenging at-large incumbent Ray Thompson on the town board.

Kenny Talton filed Monday to challenge Ora Truzy for her District 1 seat on the board.

Hosea Manley is challenging Paul Smalley for his District 2 seat.

Tom Preston and Billy Rivenbark are going after the seat that will be left vacant by District 3 commissioner Lloyd Warren, who is not seeking reelection.

Gene Lee is challenging District 4 town commissioner Jimmy Kornegay.
