Two wrecks cause
$15,000 in damages
Two accidents, only seconds apart Friday at West Ash and North James streets, resulted in about $15,100 in damages, Goldsboro police reported.
The first wreck happened at 1:02 p.m., with one of the drives involved fleeing the scene. Damages were put at more than $5,100. Police said Patricia R. Herring, 51, of Adds Road, Pikeville, was making a right turn from North James Street when her car was struck by a westbound vehicle.
Seconds later, two other vehicles were involved in a wreck. Police said Charles Lee Sutton, 56, of Saddlewood Drive, was making a left turn and then looked back at the previous crash and his sport utility vehicle struck an oncoming SUV. Sutton was charged with a safe-movement violation. The other driver was listed as Sharon H. Harrell, 44, of Woodland Church Road, Dudley. Damages were put at $10,000.
In other accidents:
*An eastbound driver was injured and damages were estimated at $8,100 in a two-vehicle collision at 6 p.m. Sunday at U.S. 70 West and Claridge Nursery Road, police said. Robert George Hankins, 18, of Perry Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other driver, Ernest Daniel McCloud, 69, of Old Cornwallis Road, Princeton, was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-car crash at 2:11 p.m. Sunday at Corporate Drive and an entrance ramp to the U.S. 70 bypass. One driver, William Aaron White, 21, of Friendship Church Road, Faison, and two passengers in the other car, Brandon Wyman Hill, 17, of North Carolina Street and Julia Katherine Walker, 16, of Jeffery Drive, LaGrange, were released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Elizabeth Irene Peele, 16, of Mount Carmel Church Road, Pikeville, was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 5:35 a.m. Sunday on Royall Avenue near Landmark Drive, police said. The car driven by Mayron Chester Pope, 77, of Woodview Drive, ran off the right side down the ditch and struck a power pole, the report said. Pope was neither injured nor charged. His car was valued at $9,500.
*A southbound driver was injured and damages were estimated at $9,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 10:24 a.m. Saturday at East Elm Street and South Andrews Avenue, police said. Crystal Ann Armwood, 26, of Andrews Avenue was released after emergency-room treatment. Lori Ann Carlton, 33, of Athens Drive, Dudley, was charged with a stoplight violation.
Cash stolen
About $15,000 was stolen from a mobile home in the 100 block of Garrick Lane, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. D.P. Rhodes, told deputies that the money had been left in a pot under a kitchen cabinet and only two other people knew it was there. Rhodes said the pot had not been checked in about six months.
Bank robbery
Mount Olive police are searching for the suspects shown below for the robbery of the Wachovia Bank on July 19. Anyone with information on the robbery is urged to call the Mount Olive Police Department at 658-5031 or Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A tool set, 150 DVDs, a floor safe, a compact disc player, a propane burner and a drill were stolen between Sunday and dawn today after a lock on a storage barn was damaged in the 1700 block of U.S. 13 South. The stolen property was valued at $4,600. The owner was listed as Kyle Dean Settles.
*Windows on five recreational vehicles were smashed and six other RVs were ransacked between Thursday and Friday at S&M Wholesale Sales Inc. at 4044 U.S. 70 West. Damages were estimated at $2,000. The surveillance camera also was damaged, according to the report.
*State quarters, other loose change, a necklace and a man's wedding ring were stolen between Saturday and Sunday after a door was pried open at a home in the 600 block of Powell Road. The property at Paul Flowers' home was valued at $1,125.
*A necklace, gold earrings, a gold nugget watch and $65 were stolen Sunday after a window and a kitchen wall were damaged from an apartment in the 200 block of Ann Street. The resident, Andrea M. Joseph, estimated the value of the stolen property at $530 and damages at $300.
*A blue 1987 Ford F-150 pickup truck was stolen between July 16 and Saturday from the 800 block of Lindell Road, deputies said. The truck, owned by L.M. Merritt of Princeton, was valued at $2,000.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A DVD player and tools were stolen Saturday after a vehicle window was smashed in the 1200 block of Sunburst Drive, police said. The owner, Johnny Allen McFatter of Tarklin Drive, estimated the value of the stolen property at $825 and damage at $225. The tools included a sander, a jig saw, a drill, a circular saw and a saw blade kit.
*A red scooter was stolen between Thursday and Saturday after a shed door was pried open in the 600 block of Slaughter Street, police said, The resident, Barron Crawford, said the scooter was worth $600.
*A purse with personal papers was stolen Saturday after a truck window was shattered in a parking lot on Tenth Place, police said. The driver, Kim Hipkiss of LaGrange, put a $40 value on her property. Damage to the company truck was set at $200.
Shed fire
A heater that had been left on inadvertently set a shed on fire Saturday night at 1504 Boyette Drive, the Goldsboro Fire Department reported.
"It heated up everything inside and set it on fire," Fire Lt. Don Collins said. "The Christmas decorations were melted."
The building and contents, owned by Tracy Reeves, were valued at $1,500.
Thirteen firefighters answered the 6:15 p.m. call.
Missing
Bryant
A 14-year-old girl has been reported missing to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Rasheda Lynette Bryant of 129 Wharton Lane was described as black, 5-feet-1 and 140 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a light complexion.
When she was seen last at 5:30 p.m. July 14, she was wearing a white tank top and blue shorts. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481 or 731-1373.
