Man shot
A Goldsboro teen-ager was shot in the leg Wednesday when he stopped to check on a car problem at Swan and North Center streets, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Clayton Raynor, 19, of Elton Drive was driven to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, a spokeswoman said.
Raynor told police that he had stopped at about 5:55 p.m. and while looking under the hood, he heard a gun shot and felt pain in his right knee. He said he did not see a shooter.
Fairview
center robbed
The Fairview Community Center at 1906 Edgerton St. was vandalized, and about $3,140 worth of property was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday, Goldsboro police reported. A window and a snack machine were damaged during the break-in, the report said. Damages were estimated at $350. Two computers, three monitors, three keyboards, a printer, a compact disc player and five sleeping bags were stolen, the report said.
Church fire
A malfunctioning ceiling fan on Tuesday created a fire in duct work at Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church at 2494 Pikeville-Princeton Road, officials said Wednesday.
The family life center building filled with smoke from the fire, forcing an evacuation of the building. Twenty volunteer firefighters from Nahunta and others from Pikeville, Fremont and Belfast responded to the 5:17 p.m. call. Nahunta Volunteer Fire Chief Jay Howell said the building would need a good cleaning and the fan and duct work would have to be replaced. He estimated damages at $5,000.
Three injured
Three people were injured Wednesday in four traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*A 12-year-old boy on a bicycle was struck by a car at 10 p.m. Wednesday at North George and West Holly streets,. Billy Renaldo Hamm Jr. of North Carolina Street was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokesman said. The report said Hamm, who was going west, did not stop at a stop sign and his bike was struck by a northbound car that did not stop. No charges were listed.
*A motorcycle toppled over and the driver was injured at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday on New Hope Road near Central Heights Road, police said. Jermaine Terrell-Ray Williams, 23, of Party Road, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was not charged. Damages were estimated at $500.
*A driver was injured in a two-car collision at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Parkway Drive. Bertha Lee Frederick, 61, of Northpoint Drive, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. James Michael Israel, 19, of Jessica Lane, LaGrange, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were set at $1,150.
*Damages were estimated at $5,800 in a two-vehicle crash at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday on the U.S. 117 bypass, near West Elm Street. Judy R. Hill, 39, of Georgia Farms Drive, Dudley, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Three bicycles and three window air conditioners were stolen between June 18 and Wednesday after two windows were smashed at a vacant home in the 100 block of North Virginia Street, Goldsboro police said. A hot water heater also was damaged. The owner, Earnest Boney of Goldsboro, estimated the value of the stolen property at $600 and damages at $600.
*Tools, a television and a video cassette recorder were stolen in July from an unlocked barn in the 300 block of Rock Road, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, John Thomas Flowers Jr. of Goldsboro, put a $980 value on the property. The tools included a two cordless drills, an electric drill, a miter saw and a sander.
*A burgundy Omega scooter was stolen Wednesday from the 1500 block of Rose Street, police said. The owner and resident, Mike Smith, said the scooter was worth $1,800.
Car stolen
A 28-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Wednesday by Wayne County sheriff's deputies and charged with felony auto larceny. Johnny Woodard III of East Elm Street was accused of stealing a car Tuesday from a Goldsboro dealership. The car, valued at $12,000, was recovered. Woodard was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Drug charge
A 23-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police and charged with possession of marijuana in a prison.
Jamie Warwick was accused of having the drug at Neuse Correctional Institution on Stevens Mill Road, police said. His secured bond was set at $10,000.
Missing
A 20-year-old Goldsboro man was reported missing Wednesday by relatives to Goldsboro police. Willard Matthew Fowler of 1906 Stevens St. was described as black, 6-feet-1 and 180 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes, a light complexion and a tattoo on his left forearm. When he was seen last at 7 a.m. Tuesday, he was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
