Investigators sift through rubble from fire

State and federal fire investigators continued today to sift through the rubble of house where two people died Saturday.
Roy Chester Rowe, 48, and Patricia Ann Raynor, 38, died in their home at 206 N. George St.
"I have my suspicions" about the cause of the fire, said Assistant Special Agent in Charge John Rea of the State Bureau of Investigation.
Rea added that he had called in other SBI agents and a federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms officer to help in the investigation.
Rea said today that their work will either verify his suspicions or disprove them. He said the investigation may be completed later today.
Police Investigator Dale Foster also was assigned to the case.
The other tenants in the home at the time escaped the blaze.
Goldsboro Fire Depart-ment Lt. J. Carlton Parks said today that when firefighters arrived, fire was shooting out of all of the windows.
"It had a foothold on us," he said.
Parks and his shift were assisted by Assistant Fire Chief Gary Whaley's shift in putting out the fire.
"They did a good job," Parks said. "I didn't think there would be that much of the house standing."
The two-story, wood-frame home is owned by D.J. Rose of Goldsboro. The 89-year-old building is in the Goldsboro Historic District.
