Duplin 4-H members win 41 district medals

BEULAVILLE -- Duplin 4-H'ers have brought home 41 district medals.

Duplin County placed first among the state's 100 counties in the annual 4-H District Activity Day held in each of seven districts in the state. Duplin County had the largest delegation of 4-H presenters than any other county in the state. District Activity Day for the Southeast District was held this week at Beulaville Elementary School.

A total of 41 Duplin 4-H'ers participated. Duplin County had 37 4-H'ers to bring home medals and awards.

Gold medal winners were Spencer Williams, Matthew Pickett, Dontae Moore, Nicole Potts, Marcus Fisher, Jessica Williams, Anthony Fisher, Aaron Miller, SuNita Hill, Justin Moore, Chris Williams, and E.C. Newkirk.

Silver medals were won by LeAnthony Boone, Dondrae Moore, Terrance Powers, Joshua Sholar, Al Owens, Brian Moore, James Owens, Clint Parrish, Joey Stokes, Victoria Powers, Kaestazia Middleton, Tamrick Hobley, Fonte Stokes, Yneikia Rhodes, and Tymeisha Brown.

Bronze medal winners were Forrest Williams, Shandelina Edwards, Deshawn Stokes, and Tiera Vandiver.

Advancing to state competition in Raleigh are district gold winners, all age categories, and sliver medal winners, ages 11-13 and 14-18.

The South B 4-H Club Dance Team in Beulaville took part in the district talent competition. The team included Ajay Carr, Keya Judge, Cornettie Graham, LaToya Jones, and Tyesha Jones. Amber Byrd also took part in the district talent competition. They each took home a blue ribbon, the highest award accorded 4-H talent contestants.

Duplin 4-H'ers compete against 12 other counties each year at District Activity Day. Contests include illustrated talk, show-and-tell demonstration, outdoor cooking and talent.

A total of 152 Duplin residents represented the county 4-H program at the district event.
