Eleven schools will have new start times this fall

Eleven of Wayne County's public schools will have new start and dismissal times when classes resume in the fall.
The county Board of Education approved the changes Monday night. The adjustments were made to accommodate a smoother bus schedule, said Dr. Craig McFadden, assistant superintendent for accountability and student services.
The most drastic changes will be felt at Goldsboro High, Goldsboro Middle, and Dillard Middle schools.
Goldsboro High School will operate one hour later, starting at 8:30 a.m. and dismissing at 3:30 p.m. Goldsboro and Dillard middle schools will begin and dismiss one hour earlier, at 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The other changes were marginal.
Rosewood Middle School changed by only five minutes each way. It had operated on an 8:20 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. schedule and will now move to begin at 8:15 a.m. and dismiss at 3:15 p.m.
Two northern area schools will open a little earlier. Northeast Elementary will start at 8 a.m. rather than 8:10, while Northwest Elementary, previously starting at 8:15, will also begin at 8.
At five schools, only the dismissal times changed. Brogden Primary was moved from 3 p.m. to 2:45. Carver Elementary will dismiss at 2:45 p.m. instead of 2:55, and Southern Academy's dismissal was changed from 2:45 to 2:30. Southern Wayne High was delayed five minutes, from 2:55 to the new closing time of 3 p.m., while Norwayne Middle, previously dismissing at 3:05 p.m., was changed to 3 p.m.
