MOUNT OLIVE - Mount Olive College plans to open its sixth location in the Washington area as early as October.

President Dr. William Byrd said the college is finalizing negotiations on a site located on Highway 264, west of Washington in Beaufort County.

"If all goes well, renovations to the facility are expected to be complete by October 1," he said.

Officials said the college is also actively recruiting the initial four staff members for the satellite campus, including a director, site administrator, assessment counselor and a program representative. Byrd anticipates the staff for the Washington location will at least double within the first two years.

Julia Pacilli, program representative for the New Bern location, is currently recruiting students for the first cohort in Washington, the management and organizational development program starting Oct. 18. Once it is fully operational, the college will expand to include the same non-traditional programs available at the New Bern, Research Triangle Park, Wilmington and Mount Olive evening college campuses.

"Our initial research in the northeast region has indicated a strong interest among local residents for Mount Olive College," Byrd said. "We expect that this venture will be important to MOC and the people of northeast North Carolina."
