Election filings begin

Two people have set their sights on the Mount Olive Board of Commissioners, while two others are running for sanitary boards.
Filing opened Friday, July 1, at the Wayne County Board of Elections for several municipal offices and sanitary boards. Filing resumed today and will continue through Friday, Aug. 1.
In Mount Olive, Hosea M. Manley, of Patten Street, is challenging incumbent Paul Smalley for the District 2 commissioner seat. Smalley has not yet filed but intends to do so.
Manley also ran in 1999, when Smalley was first elected.
Jimmy Kornegay, the District 4 commissioner, filed for re-election today.
Also, Edwin B. Beamon, of U.S. 117, filed for re-election to the Belfast-Patetown Sani-tary District Board, while Bobby Outlaw, of Ruskin Road, is seeking a seat on the Southeastern Wayne Sani-tary District Board.
