Work progressing on shopping center

Berkeley Commons shopping center should be open for business by the end of September, the construction manager said Wednesday.
The project has had several delays because of bad weather since construction began in January, but it is now on schedule, said Richard Cordrey, a project superintendent with the John S. Clark Co. Inc. of Winston-Salem.
"We're setting steel, laying concrete, doing the roofing and starting stucco work," Cordrey said in a telephone interview.
The shopping center, minus the outparcels, should be complete by Sept. 12; that's when it will be turned over to the merchants to complete the interiors, he said.
"Usually they'll be ready to open within two weeks or so," Cordrey said.
The tenants are Ross Dress for Less; T.J. Maxx; Bed Bath & Beyond; Old Navy; Rack Room Shoes; and Ruth 22, a clothing store. The shopping center has around 140,000 square feet.
The Clark company is not building the outparcel buildings. One will be a Chick-fil-A restaurant, while a contract is still being negotiated for the other site, Cordrey said.
