The National Weather Service in Raleigh has placed Wayne and portions of Wilson County under a flash flood watch through 5 a.m. Wednesday.
A ragged line of slow moving thunderstorms will move west into Mount Olive, Goldsboro and eastern Wilson County this afternoon. These storms will produce very heavy rain with amounts up to 2 inches.
In Wayne, the N.C. 111 corridor and U.S. 117 would be especially prone to standing water.
Minor flooding on roads and low-lying areas is possible. People living in flood-prone areas should be alert to rising water and drivers are advised to reduce speeds to avoid hydroplaning.
The potential also exists for continued heavy rain from showers and storms Wednesday and Wednesday night and the flash flood watch may be extended.
