The body of a 14-year-girl was found by Wayne County lawmen early today and her stepfather is expected to be charged with her rape and murder.

Jonneka Nikki Spencer was found in a wooded area off Church of God Road before dawn by detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

Roger Lamont Sutton, 32, was taken into custody and was expected to be charged, said Lt. Tom Effler of the Sheriff's Office.

Sutton was out on bail after being charged with stabbing two people in April, officials said.

Effler said officers responded to a loud-noise complaint at a Hinnant Road address about 3:30 a.m. today. Upon arriving, they confronted Sutton and an investigation led to the discovery of the girl's body.

The cause of death was not reported.

Effler would not release details surrounding the incident, saying his office had received conflicting stories and was still investigating the case.

Capt. George L. Raecher said that Sutton had been arrested in early April after having allegedly stabbed a man and woman in the Fremont area in a drug-related incident. At that time, Sutton was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, but was later released on bond.

The girl had recently completed the eighth grade at Norwayne Middle School, according to officials with the Wayne County Public Schools.
