The result of an investigation of a fatal crash at the intersection of N.C. 111 and Tommy's Road may hinge on new information from witnesses, an investigator with the Highway Patrol said today.

Summer Brooke Worrell, 16, died in Tuesday afternoon's fiery collision with a tractor-trailer truck.

Trooper B.W. Overton said he has interviewed three witnesses but there might be more. Anyone who may have seen the crash was asked to call Overton at 731-7960 and leave their names and phone numbers so he can contact them.

"There are still some issues to be resolved for me to complete the investigation," Overton said today. "It's still ongoing. Even if someone has a little bit of information, it might be enough to complete the investigation."

Overton said no charges have been filed.

Miss Worrell, a rising junior at Eastern Wayne High School, was driving west on Tommy's Road when the accident happened. The truck driver, Willie Wayne Veale of Windsor, was traveling north. He was driving for David R. Whitley Industries of Lewiston.

Both vehicles caught fire and were destroyed. Veale was not injured.

Witnesses have given conflicting statements about who had the right of way at the traffic light.

The teen's death was the 11th this year on Wayne County roads.
