Gunshots damage
vehicle, 2 homes
Gunfire before dawn today damaged a vehicle and two homes, according to reports filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
A gunshot damaged a compact auto between Thursday night and dawn today at the home of a Garner police officer in the 100 block of Willow Drive near Dudley, a report said.
Randy Smith said his police car was not damaged. But damage to the other car was estimated at $500.
A gunshot also shattered four walls and a picture frame before dawn today at a nearby home in the 800 block of Mitchell Road, deputies said. The resident, Jason Alan Smith, estimated damages at $215.
A gunshot on Thursday night damaged walls in a home in the 2700 block of Nahunta Road, a report said. The resident, Jeff Allen Kidd, set the damage at $1,000. A neighbor said he had been shooting a rifle at the same time but was only shooting at the ground at a chicken, the report said.
No charges have been filed in the three cases.
Assaults
Two people were assaulted Thursday in Goldsboro, police said. No arrests have been made.
Isiah Young, 16, of Rosewood Avenue was wounded in the left hand by a gunshot at about 1 p.m. in the 2000 block of South Slocumb Street, a report said. He did not see the shooter. Young was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Lapleasure Artis, 28, of Creech Street was cut on the hand and forehead by a black man at about 10:20 p.m. in the 1100 block of Slaughter Street. She left the hospital without being treated, a spokeswoman said. The assailant was described only as being about 25 years old, and he wore a white shirt and blue jeans.
8 injured in
6 accidents
Eight people were injured and damages were estimated at $65,700 in six recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Two people were injured in a two-car collision at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Little River Shopping Center parking lot, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Linda Carol Bass, 40, of Argo Street, and a passenger in the other car, Katrina A. Whaley, 39, of Outlaw Road, Dudley, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Bass, who was going south, was charged with not having an operator's license. Ms. Whaley's driver, Roberta Ann McDaniel, 18, of Peele Road, was traveling west. Damages were put at $4,500. No charges were filed. Police said a stop sign was missing at the intersection.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 5:15 p.m. Thursday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Ridgecrest Drive, police said. One motorist, Jack Lawrence Carr Jr., 16, of North Caswell Street, LaGrange, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other driver was identified as Michael Eric Assad, 30, of Dennis Drive, Princeton.
*A motorist was injured and the tractor-trailer truck he was driving was heavily damaged in a wreck at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at N.C. 581 and Claridge Nursery Road, the Highway Patrol said. Ricky Bissette, 48, of Selma was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed. Troopers said the big rig ran off the right side, came back across the road, ran off the left side and overturned on the left shoulder. Damage was put at $35,000.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $10,000 in a one-car wreck at 9:53 p.m. Tuesday on Old Smithfield Road near N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Sarah L. Lancaster, 17, of Hill Street, and her passenger, Ellen Ginn, 17, of Burch Road, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Lancaster was charged with driving left of center The westbound car ran off the left side, traveled 508 feet and struck a tree, the report said.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $5,200 in a two-vehicle collision at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Indian Springs and Arrington Bridge roads, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Juan Flores, 22, of Pink Hill, the other motorist, Haywood Wilson Gardner, 73, of Woodridge Drive, Mount Olive, and a passenger, Robert Ramirez, 23, of Edwina Kornegay Road, Calypso, were released after emergency-room treatment. Flores, who was going south, was charged with a stop-sign violation. The pickup truck he was driving collided with Gardner's westbound auto, the report said.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 11:45 a.m. Monday on Pecan Road near Mitchell Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Socorro Nicole Miles, 16, of Sydney Drive, Dudley, was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the car ran off the right side in a left curve, came back across the road, then ran off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned. She was not injured. The car was valued at $6,000.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A Yamaha dirt bike was stolen before dawn today from a yard in the 300 block of Linen Lane, sheriff's deputies said. The resident and owner, Anthony Maurice Taylor, put a $3,000 value on the bike.
*The back windows of three cars were smashed before dawn today in the 100 block of Jake Drive near Dudley, deputies said. The resident and owner, Maria D. Hernandez Montero, estimated damages at $3,000.
Break-ins
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A grinder, a combination compact disc player and radio, a tool set with a drill, a light and a drill and grinder were stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from a shop in the 500 block of North Lionel Street, police said. The resident, Richard Auger, put a $1,110 value on the property.
*Ladders were stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from adjacent apartments in the 400 block of North James Street, police said. The thief had broken a window to enter one unit, the report said. The owner, C. Artis of Goldsboro, said the ladders were worth $180. No damage estimate was listed.
Drug charges filed
Two people were arrested Thursday by Wayne County authorities and charged with felony drug offenses.
*Chad M. Milligas, 22, whose home address was not listed, was charged by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad with trafficking in cocaine by possession and trafficking in cocaine by transport on Indian Springs Road. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
*Antwana Jermel Pearson, 27, of Prince Avenue was charged by the Sheriff's Office with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon on U.S. 70 East. She was jailed in lieu of a $6,000 secured bond.
Missing
A 64-year-old LaGrange man was reported missing Thursday night by relatives to Goldsboro police. Willie Plummer Williams of 503 Firetower Road was described as black, 5-feet-10 and 215 pounds with gray hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion.
When Williams was seen last at 4 p.m. Thursday at McDonalds at 300 N. Berkeley Blvd., he was wearing a royal blue shirt, blue pants and black shoes. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
