Carmichael was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond set by Magistrate S.M. Jordan.

Police Officer Stephen Powers, who shot Carmichael, has been placed on paid administrative leave by the department during the State Bureau of Investigation's inquiry of the shooting.

Carmichael also was charged with assaulting the second officer to respond, Sonja Cates.
