2005 Relay for Life raises 566,000 dollars

The 2005 Relay for Life had raised $566,000 as of Thursday, but officials say the money that comes in during the next couple of weeks could push the total to $575,000.
Dr. Lee Adams, one of the event's three co-chairman, announced the tally at a recognition dinner Thursday honoring many of the teams that took part in the May 13-14 event.
The Best Team Spirit Award went to Wayne County employees.
Kim Hernandez Browne received a special award for getting people to sign up to have a colonoscopy, a big push with the American Cancer Society this year.

Floating trophies were presented to the school, church, military and rookie teams raising the most money. Recipients were: Charles B. Aycock High School, $8,536; New Hope Friends Meeting, $25,028; 916th Air Refueling Wing, $2,205; and Southco Distributing, $15,550.
Awards also went to the following teams for raising the most money -- Wayne Memorial Hospital, first, $68,250; Purple Heart Survivors, second, $40,076; Handy Mart, third, $30,379; and Shepherd Shockers, fourth, $26,594.
Receiving campsite awards were Wayne Memorial Hospital, first; New Hope Friends Meeting, second; Garris Chapel Church, third; and Cherry Hospital, fourth.
Several All Star Team Awards were also presented. Bronze Awards were given to teams raising $150 to $249 per team member. Recipients were Goldsboro High School, $779; Southeast Family Pharmacy, $1,729.79; Saint Luke United Methodist Church, $2,248; Sam's Club, $2,471.45; Fremont United Methodist Church, $2,895; Honoring Joe and Valerie Kosuda, $3,365; Kirkwood, $3,410; Eastern Wayne High School Key Club, $4,025.29; Coker Memorial Church, $4,162.68; Goldsboro H.O.G. Chapter, $4,450; We Are Family, $4,479; Wayne Women's Clinic, $4,500; Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, $5,782; Grantham School and community, $6,404; Zion United Methodist Church, $7,308; Dudley Christian Church, $7,622.93; and Saulston United Methodist Church, $8,627.
Silver Awards were given to teams raising $250 to $399 per team member. Recipients were Southern Wayne National Honor Society, $3,771; T.A. Loving Trailblazers, $5,719; First Baptist Church, $5,949; First Free Will Baptist Church, $6,345.27; Goldsboro News-Argus, $6,963.25; Charles B. Aycock High School, $8,536.22; Cherry Hospital, $9,519; Salem Survivors, $10,616.52; and Skill Creations Inc., $15,239.86.
Gold Awards were presented to team raising $400 to $549 per team member. Recipients were General Electric, $7,923.54; Pine Forest United Methodist Church, $11,673; Walnut Creek Free Will Baptist Church, $18,564.35; and Handy Mart, $30,379.50.
Purple Awards were presented to teams raising $550 to $699 per team member. Recipients were First Pentecostal Holiness Church, $8,603.31; Georgia Pacific, $12,185.55; and Excell Home Fashions Inc., $13,194.79.
Premier Awards went to teams raising $700 or more per team member. Recipients were Northeast Elementary School, $3,056; The Radiators, $8,246.88; Saint Mark Disciples, $10,369; Wayne County, $15,003.35; Southco Distributing, $15,550.13; Shepherd Shockers, $26,594; Purple Star Survivors, $40,076.61; and Wayne Memorial Hospital, $68,250.
