MOC business students win awards

MOUNT OLIVE -- Nine Mount Olive College students recently received awards at the State Leadership Conference Competition of the state chapter of Phi Beta Lambda.
First- and second-place winners will go on to the national leadership conference in Orlando, Fla., June 29 through July 2.
Rebecca Whitley of Mount Olive won second place in the Future Business Teacher category and fourth place in the Human Resource Management category. She will be recognized at the national conference for the director and executive levels of the career management and achievement program.
Kallen King of Faison will be also be recognized during the national competition as the Mount Olive College Business Person of the Year.
Other winners included Alex Givens of Goldsboro, second place in the finance category and fourth place in accounting for professionals; Samantha Beavers of Lebanon, Va., second place in the sports management and marketing category; Jeremy Croker of Pine Level, second place in the economics category; and Michele Knotts of Goldsboro, sixth place in future business executive competition.
Sonya McCoy, the chapter's adviser, and Dr. Henry Day also will also attend the conference .
"We are so proud of these students," Ms. McCoy said. "They worked hard to prepare for their events and now they have been recognized for that hard work. It is an honor for them to compete at the national conference and it speaks well of Mount Olive College."
The Mount Olive College PBL Chapter was recognized for its contribution to the state organization's scholarship fund, and for its contribution to the March of Dimes. The chapter also received the Terry Lowrance Leadership Award and took third place for having the largest increase in local chapter membership. Mount Olive's chapter also was named a Gold Star Chapter and was recognized and commended for exceeding its chapter membership over the previous year.
Phi Beta Lambda provides opportunities for students to enhance their self-confidence and leadership skills, sharpen public speaking skills, build friendships, apply money management techniques, network with business leaders, and acquire job readiness skills.
