Wayne native wins Music Row award

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Former Dudley resident Sherrill Blackman was honored for the second time as "Songplugger Of The Year" at Music Row Magazine's annual awards ceremony.
The award was given in recognition for the hard work behind matching the right song with the right artist.
Some of Blackman's most recent successes include recordings by Randy Travis, Chad Brock, Tanya Tucker and Eddie Arnold.
Music Row Magazine, one of country music's most read publications, also presented awards for top Musician, Producer, Songwriter and Song Of The Year.
Blackman is the son of Shirley Blackman of Dudley and the late William "Bill" Blackman, and is a 1976 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and a 1979 graduate of Wayne Community College.
After graduating with a degree in Music Business from Belmont University in Nashville, Blackman went to work for American Image Productions, The Nashville Songwriters Association International, and Buckhorn Music Publishing. For the past 11 years, he has owned and operated his own company, The SDB Music Group.
