Citizen's call
lead to arrests
An alert neighbor called the 911 center Wednesday about a residential break-in on Augusta Drive and said four young black men left in a sport utility vehicle. Four men were arrested in less than 10 minutes by Wayne County sheriff's deputies.
The four men -- Mario Antwan Cozart, 20, of Georgia Farms Road, Dudley; Elroy Player Jr., 20, of Marshall Drive, Dudley; Mario Devon Crews, 19, of Athens Drive, Dudley, and Chad Donnavan Herring, 16, of Indian Springs Road, Mount Olive -- were charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. The four were placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $100,000 secured bonds.
The thieves had smashed a door to get inside the mobile home. Damage was estimated at $350.
The resident, Wanda Ann Bowden, was notified and returned home. The stolen property, valued at about $2,011, was recovered . Among the items stolen were video-game equipment, stereo equipment, a combination printer, copier and fax machine, a watch, a phone, a video cassette recorder and 20 DVDs.
Car break-in
A Goldsboro teen-ager was arrested before dawn today by Goldsboro police and charged with three offenses after a car break-in.
Joseph Decore Simms, 16, of South Audubon Avenue was charged with one felony count each of breaking and entering of a vehicle and larceny and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Simms was accused of breaking out a window of a car in the 700 block of Ash Street at about 1:25 a.m. and stealing a compact disc player, a CD case and several CDs, Officer Thomas Bailey reported.
The stolen property, valued at about $262, was recovered. Damage to the car, owned by Julius Ervin Jones of Dudley, was estimated at $300.
House fire
FREMONT -- A grease fire in the kitchen on Monday resulted in about $130,000 in damages to a home at 506 N. Sycamore St., a Fremont fire official said today.
Neither the resident, nor any firefighters were injured.
Fremont Assistant Fire Chief Danny Tillman was at the fire station when the alarm was sounded.
"I looked out the door and saw smoke rolling from the back of the house," he said.
Fifteen Fremont and 13 Pikeville volunteers answered the 2:49 p.m. call. They needed about 20 to 30 minutes to get the fire controlled and remained for another hour to finish salvage work. Each department brought three trucks.
The home, owned by Tony Batts, was valued at $120,000. Damage was estimated at $80,000. Tillman said the contents, valued at about $50,000, were destroyed.
Assault charge
A 30-year-old Goldsboro woman was arrested Wednesday night by Goldsboro police and charged with aggravated assault.
Markeisha Kamoh Allen, 30, of Slaughter Street was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $35,000 secured bond. She was arrested at 10:25 p.m. by Officer J.R. Holland at East Ash Street and North Oleander Avenue.
Ms. Allen was accused of cutting the throat of her estranged husband, Gerald Allen, on Sunday in his home in the 400 block of Leslie Street, police said. He was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Investigations
Two homes in Goldsboro were damaged by gunshots, according to Goldsboro police reports.
A home and a sport utility vehicle in the 200 block of Olivia Lane were damaged at about 2:30 a.m. today. Vinyl siding on the home and the vehicle's window and tire were struck. The resident, J.M. Bass, set damage at $425.
Five walls and vinyl siding of a home in the 400 block of Odell Street were damaged early Wednesday. The resident, Moses Vann, estimated damage at $100.
Three charges
MOUNT OLIVE -- A 44-year-old Mount Olive man was charged by Mount Olive police and charged with three felony offenses. Chester William Farrior of North Beams Street was charged with possession of drugs, forgery and uttering. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under $4,000 bond.
Two hurt in wreck
Two people were injured in a car-truck crash at 3:10 p.m. Monday on U.S. 117, south of Big Daddy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Tasheika Dublin Barnes, 26, and her passenger, Jayla Barnes, 7, both of Dotsie Drive, Fremont, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
The other driver, Lelia Nicole Henn, 16, of Crossbow Drive, Pikeville, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Ms. Henn was leaving a private driveway and her pickup collided with Ms. Barnes' northbound car. Damages were set at $3,500.
Missing
A 16-year-old Dudley girl was reported missing Wednesday by her mother to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
LaCre Shonie Lewis of 712 Pecan Road was described as black, 5-feet-5 and 135 pounds with long black and brown hair and dark eyes.
When she was seen last at 6 p.m. Friday, she was wearing a black coat and blue jeans.
Anyone with information on her location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
