Waynesborough summer events planned

Waynesborough Historical Village has two events planned this summer. Both are free and open to the public, said Ray Swinson, director of events.
Diversity Day will be June 4. The event will recognize African American, Hispanic, Asian and Native American cultures.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature Appaloosa horses from Shawnee Acres, gospel music and native dances by local groups.
Waynesborough's Summerfest takes place the weekend of July 9 and 10. This event will feature a Civil War living history, Dutch Oven Cook-off, and watermelon eating and seed-spitting contests. Potato sack races and a rabbit rodeo will take place as well.
The rabbit rodeo allows children to try to catch rabbits to take home for $10. Cages will be available for purchase as well. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Waynesborough Administrator Colleen Baker said the village is looking for food and craft vendors for both events. For Summerfest, craft vendors should feature homemade or handmade items. Musicians are needed as well.
Waynesborough Historical Village is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
