3 hurt in 5 crashes
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $16,650 in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-car collision at 2:40 p.m. Sunday at North Jefferson Avenue and Catalpa Street, Goldsboro police said. Janet Marie Miller, 46, of Royall Avenue, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver was identified as James A. Goldsby, 63, of Muriel Street.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured in a three-vehicle crash at 4:02 p.m. Friday on Royall Avenue near North Jefferson Avenue, police said. Taytonar Marie McNair, 36, of First Street was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. William Harris Merritt, 47, of Gable Drive, Dudley, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other driver was Roychester Lee Brodie, 61, of North Carolina Street. Damages were set at $250.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle wreck at 1:40 p.m. Friday at North Spence Avenue and the U.S. 70 bypass, police said. Jessica Isabel Aguilar, 18, of Potts Road, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck. The other driver was listed as Vivian W. Beamon, 41, of Tinderwood Drive. Damages were set at $2,300.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 70 and Claridge Nursery Road, the Highway Patrol said. Robin Neal Bjorling, 43, of Valerie Street was released after emergency-room treatment. The driver of a Gray's Trucking Co. tractor-trailer, Christopher Shaun Gray, 21, of Snow Hill, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. Damages were put at $1,100.
*Damages were estimated at $6,000 in a car-truck wreck at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 117 near Old Mount Olive Road, the Highway Patrol said. Cowen Ramon Eason, 29, of Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck. The other driver was listed as Ralph Arthur Bellamy, 66, of Chinquapin.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Six welding leads and 10 rolls of electric wire were stolen between Friday and dawn today from General Industries at 3048 Thoroughfare Road, said deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department. The property was valued at $1,850. The thief had entered a maintenance shop, climbed over the top of a secured shop workroom and then used a cutting torch to damage locks to storage rooms in order to get the material, the report said. Damages were put at $40.
*A laptop computer was stolen Sunday after a truck window was smashed in the 300 block of North Spence Avenue, Goldsboro police said. The owner, Heather Smith of LaGrange, estimated the laptop's value at $2,000 and damage at $100.
*Stereo equipment was stolen between Wednesday and Saturday from a storage building in the 100 block of Garden Circle, deputies said. The resident, Darrick Lavern Bell, put a $2,000 value on the property.
*A laptop computer and 30 blank compact discs were stolen between Thursday and Friday from an unlocked home in the 600 block of Gurley Dairy Road, deputies said. The resident, H.N. Woodard, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,800.
*A thief damaged two doors between Saturday and Sunday in order to steal five soft drinks from a home in the 100 block of Betty Drive, deputies said. The resident, N.A. Enciso, estimated the value of the drinks at $5 and damage at $70.
Man wounded
A 21-year-old man shot himself accidentally Saturday while removing a handgun from his pocket, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
Tarell Marke Braswell of Brookshire Drive was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Braswell had been visiting relatives and then went to a cousin's home in Dudley, the report said. He pulled out a .45 caliber handgun, it accidentally discharged and the bullet struck his left leg.
Inquiry into death
Goldsboro police have begun an investigation of the death of a 29-year-old Goldsboro man, according to reports.
An employee of the state Corrections Department, Richard Keith Tyndall of 704 S. Best St., died Dec. 25 as a result of Methadone poisoning, the report said. Tyndall's mother had asked for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Convicted murderer
considered for parole
A man sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of first-degree murder is being considered for parole, officials said. Terry Wayne Weeks was convicted Sept. 18, 1985, in Wayne County Superior Court.
The state Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission is receiving information to determine if Weeks qualifies for release under the mutual agreement parole program, or MAPP. The program is a three-way agreement among the commission, the Division of Prisons and the offender. Anyone who wants to contact the commission was asked to call 1-919-716-3010.
