Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A 17-year-old Dudley female reported her 21-year-old boyfriend assaulted her when she could not produce a ring that belonged to him. She said he choked her, pulled her hair and arms, and tried to pull off her coat. She was advised to obtain a warrant.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Richard Calloway of Mourning Drive reported the theft of two speakers, an amplifier and a speaker box, valued at $600 from his truck while it was parked in a lot on Sunburst Drive Friday night. The passenger window of the vehicle was broken to gain entry.
*At First Presbyterian Church on East Ash Street, Mary Fail reported $150 damage to a kitchen door window and the theft of three bags of potato chips.
*Rafe Rice, accountant at the Officer's Club on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, told police $1,048.50 was taken from a safe there sometime over the last few months.
Accidents
Charges were filed in four accidents on Goldsboro streets.
*Both drivers involved in a two-car accident Friday morning were charged with having no operator's license. The George Street collision happened at 10:05 a.m. when Vernice Massenberg, 56, Greenleaf Street, struck a car from behind driven by Handy Applewhite Jr., 39, Hickory Road, police reported. Massenberg was also charged with failure to yield. His vehicle received $1,500 in damage. Damage to Damage to Applewhite's car was estimated at $1,000.
*At 12:13 p.m. Saturday, an 85-year-old woman was cited for brake problems after a single-car accident on George Street near U.S. 117. A vehicle driven by Eva Swinson Shepard of Sleepy Creek Road, Dudley, struck a sign and two medians before coming to rest in the parking lot of a truck stop. She was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released. Damage to her vehicle was listed at $1,500.
*Chris Perry, 33, of Waynesboro was charged with careless and reckless driving after he attempted to drive his truck under a railroad underpass on North Carolina Street at 4 p.m. Friday. The vehicle's height reportedly exceeded the limit and his truck overturned, also damaging a clearance sign. Damage to his vehicle were estimated at $6,000.
*A driver said that while driving on a service road near U.S. 70 at William Street, he blacked out and ran off the road. Leon Marshall, 56, Dillard Street, struck a fence and knocked over a tree. He was charged with careless and reckless driving. Damages to his vehicle were estimated at $4,000.
