Imani celebration under way this week

The Imani celebration that began Saturday with a business expo and health screening will culminate this coming Saturday with a speech by Dr. Naomi Tutu, the daughter of Bishop Desmond Tutu, at an induction banquet for people chosen for the Wall of First.
The week of events, designed to bring together minority groups across Wayne County and eastern North Carolina, gets under way Monday with a presentation on faith and economics by the Rev. Dr. Ricky Wood at 7 p.m. at the Greenleaf Vision of Faith Community Center at 2105 N. William Street.
On Tuesday, the topic of discussion again will be financial matters, with a focus on economic literacy, home ownership, budgeting, investment, financial planning and black buying power. The discusssion will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the center.
Wednesday's events include a session at 7 p.m. on the power of prophetic speech by the Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II.
On Thursday at 7 p.m., Lalita Mason of the state School of Math and Science will talk about planning for college.
Friday's activities begin at 10 a.m. with seminars on computer use and grant-writing techniques. A chicken, fish and trotters lunch and dinner sale starts at 11 a.m. At 7 p.m., associate ministers at Greenleaf Church will lead a worship service, with a community faith prayer walk starting at 8.
A symposium on "The State of Moral and Political Values," will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Greenleaf Church. The Wall of First ceremony, with Dr. Tutu as the featured speaker, will be held at 6 p.m. at the center.
On Sunday at 9:30 a.m., a seminar on "Faith Investments for Ministry" will be held at the church. At 11 a.m., Dr. Tutu will speak again, this time at New Mt. Moriah UH.
