A man who was arrested for a residential break-in was charged Wednesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office with the theft of plywood and particleboard from two new home construction sites.

During an investigation of a residential break-in Sunday on Becton Circle, Jeremy Crawford, 25, of Becton Circle and another man were linked to the theft of the lumber. Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour and Deputy Chris Peedin discovered that both men had worked in the subdivision where the lumber was stolen April 19 and 25.

Crawford and Christopher Lee Bennett, 28, of Radford Drive were charged with one felony count of larceny and two felony counts of misdemeanor larceny. Crawford was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond. Bennett was jailed in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond. Detective Sgts. Sheriff Carey Winders said patrols had been increased in the areas where the lumber thefts occurred. He and other officers had spent many hours of surveillance in an attempt to catch the suspects.
