The condition of one Charles B. Aycock High School student involved in an accident Monday evening at the intersection of N.C. 581 and Nahunta Road has improved, but the other student remains in critical condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, a hospital spokeswoman said today.
The driver of one of the vehicles involved, Cynthia Leigh Hubbell, was listed today in serious condition by hospital officials. A passenger in her vehicle, Amanda Sue Thigpen, remained in critical condition.
The two students were injured when their sport utility vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer hauling cars about 5:20 p.m. The SUV was traveling west on Nahunta Road and the tractor-trailer was traveling north on N.C. 581 at the time of the crash.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Thedie Cortez Fulghum, was not injured.
A spokesman for the state Highway Patrol said today that charges in the accident are pending.
