Utility pole
snapped in half
A hit-and-run driver damaged a utility pole on Jackson Street Saturday morning, the Goldsboro Police Department reported.
Around 6:45 a.m., a 2003 Dodge ran off the side of Jackson Street, hit the pole, which split in half. The driver got out and ran, reportedly east on Maple Drive.
The car, which had about $6,000 in damage, had to be towed away. It is registered to David Lee Butler of Ball Street, according to the reports.
The pole was a $800 loss.
The suspect was described as a black male, 18-22 years old, and approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall.
Burglary report
A thief broke into an occupied Goldsboro home and escaped with a gun, police report.
The burglary took place at 12:10 a.m. Friday at the home of Adul Mohemed Hanshali in the 600 block of East Elm Street. An occupant heard a noise and went to investigate, which apparently startled the thief, who fled out a door. A kitchen window had been broken.
The missing property included a 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun, valued at $450, and a Sony PlayStation II, valued at $150.
No arrests were reported.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*William Brian Taylor, a resident of Big Daddy's Road, was driving home at 12:40 a.m. Saturday when he passed three black men pushing his go-cart down the road. Taylor turned his vehicle around and the suspects fled in a brown Ford extended-cab truck toward N.C. 111.
*Ricky Joe Rose reported that a door at his home in the 100 block of Mint Hill Drive was pried open Friday afternoon. No property was reported missing.
*Someone broke into a vacant house and storage shed in the 600 block of Poplar Street and caused $4,000 in damage. The owner, William Hack Lewis of Raleigh, reported the damage Saturday.
*A single gunshot broke a bedroom window at a home in the 800 block of Oak Street early Saturday morning. Dawne Anne Davis, 43, called police after the shot was fired, around 3:45 a.m. A wall and door were also damaged.
*Jennifer Latina Stevens, who lives in the 1200 block of Lincoln Drive, called Goldsboro police at 4 a.m. Saturday to report that her 1994 Nissan Maxima was missing from her driveway. The police were later notified by Highway Patrol officers that the vehicle was involved in an accident in Duplin County around 2 a.m. No arrests were reported.
*Someone tried to break in the Swop Shop, 510 S. George Street, at 1:45 a.m. Friday but set off an alarm. Nothing was reported missing.
