Woman tied up,
robbed by pair
A 21-year-old woman was assaulted and tied up Thursday night in her home and robbed by two young black men of cash, a pet dog and other property, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.
Nicole Parker told deputies that the suspects kicked open a door to her home in the 1200 block of Gurley Dairy Road at about 11:30 p.m. One intruder was armed with an assault rifle.
The burglars threatened to kill the woman and demanded her money, the report said. Then one slapped and kicked her and tied her with duct tape, the report said. The suspects ransacked her home, took video-game equipment, blue jeans, shoes and a cell phone and then fled. Within minutes, the woman freed herself and called 911.
One suspect was described as being in his early 20s, about 5 feet 3 inches and 140 pounds with a light complexion. He wore blue jeans, a jacket and a dark toboggan. The other suspect was described as being in his early 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches and 195 pounds with a dark complexion. He wore black boots, dark blue jeans, a black jacket and sunglasses. They fled in an older model, four-door compact car.
Ms. Parker said the dog was worth $250, and the other property was valued at $510, in addition to the $250 in cash that was taken.
Two injured in 4 crashes
Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $49,900 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $16,000 in a two-car collision at 3 p.m. Thursday at East Holly Street and North Audubon Avenue, Goldsboro police said. A westbound driver, Ashley Marie Barrett, 18, of South Center Street, was charged with a stop-sign violation. The other driver, Alejandro Garcia Ramirez, 29, of Dwight Hill Mobile Home Park Lane, Mount Olive, was going south.
*Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $21,000 in a two-car crash at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Church Road and Chancery Lane, the Highway Patrol said. Sarah L. Lancaster, 16, of Hill Street and Elaine E. Bauer, 54, of Robin Lake Drive, Dudley, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Lancaster, who was going east, was charged with a yield violation after the car that she was driving collided with Ms. Bauer's southbound auto.
*Damages were set at $6,100 in a two-vehicle wreck at 3:26 p.m. Wednesday at Emmaus Church and Sleepy Creek roads, the Highway Patrol said. An eastbound driver, Mark Genarelli, 21, of Wright Brothers Avenue, was charged with a stop-sign violation. The other motorist, Charles Douglas Sykes, 57, of Jill Street, Dudley, was going north on Emmaus Church Road.
*Damages were put at $6,800 in a two-vehicle collision at 5:07 p.m. Tuesday at U.S. 70 West and Leslie Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Jonathan L. Davis, 42, of Nottingham Drive, was charged with a yield violation. The report said Davis was making a U-turn and his car collided with a westbound pickup truck, driven by Thurman Radford, 70, of N.C. 581 South.
Burglary
A burglar barged into a man's home in the 100 block of Joda Drive before dawn today and fled with $60, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
The resident, Lisandro Garcia, told deputies that he was asleep but woke up and saw a white woman take the money from his pants pocket. The suspect fled in a large red vehicle with a black woman. When deputies arrived, they said they recovered the suspect's purse and identification.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Two light fixtures, vinyl flooring and carpet were stolen between April 1 and Thursday from a mobile home in the 2000 block of Old Grantham Road, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had broken a door and then, once inside, also damaged a panel box, a receptacle, a faucet and a light switch. The owner, Sarah E. Campbell of Goldsboro, estimated the value of the stolen property at $320 and damage at $447.
*A mobile DVD player was stolen Thursday after a vehicle window was smashed in the Berkeley Mall parking lot, Goldsboro police said. The driver, Caroline Bell of Goldsboro, put a $200 value on the player. Damage was set at $200.
Drug-squad arrests
Two people were arrested Thursday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with misdemeanor violations.
*Jemel Sherrod, 31, of Falcon Drive, Pikeville, was charged with possession of marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $500 secured bond.
*Dana Gerald Lamb, 25, of South Goldsboro Street, Fremont, was charged with harassing phone calls. He also was held on an outstanding arrest order. He was jailed in lieu of a $500 secured bond.
