50 of Wayne County's best qualify for Duke program

Fifty Wayne County Public Schools students qualified for participation in this year's Duke University Talent Identification Program, with 11 of those recognized for outstanding academic skills.
Since 1980, the program has identified seventh-graders from a 16-state region in the South, Southwest and Midwest. To be eligible, students must have scored at the 95th percentile or higher on either the Scholastic Aptitude Test or American College Testing Assessment, typically administered to high school juniors and seniors.
The following area students have been invited to attend the state level recognition ceremonies:
*From Eastern Wayne Middle School: Michael Fields, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Fields; Ami Sueki, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Masatoma Sueki; and Schereeya Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Taylor.
*From Norwayne Middle School: Ashley Howell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Griffith Howell; Samuel Mullen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Mullen; Thomas Podbesek, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Podbesek; Courtney Sheeks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Sheeks; Sabrina Weisner, daughter of Donald Weisner; and Drew Daniels, son of Deanna Shook.
*From Rosewood Middle School: John Powell, son of Jean Powell.
*From Spring Creek Middle School: Eric Carlton, son of Sherry Miller; and Julius Grisette, III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Grisette.
Students qualifying for the state recognition are in the top 25 percent of the talent search pool.
