A 20-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Wednesday and charged with Tuesday's shooting of another man in the 200 block of Kennon Court.

Donta Ramone Bryant was arrested by Goldsboro police Investigator M.K. Horstmann and SBI Agent John Rea at 4:45 p.m. in the 400 block of North Carolina Street. Bryant was wanted on outstanding warrants for weapons and assault charges.

After a further inquiry by police Investigator Dale Foster, Bryant was charged in connection with the shooting of Travis Lavoy Jenkins, 42, of East Walnut Street.

Bryant was charged with three felonies -- assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharge of a weapon into occupied property.

The victim was shot several times while he was driving. He apparently tried to elude the shooter but his car crashed into a yard at West Spruce and South Virginia streets.

Jenkins was taken by helicopter to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. His condition today was not immediately known.

Police said today that they did not know of a motive for the shooting but added that it probably was not drug-related.

Bryant was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $126,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for today to determine his legal representation.
