Ashley Dowling is the new scout executive for Torhunta District of the Tuscarora Council of the Boy Scouts.

She replaces Tom Millisor, who was promoted to senior district executive for the Blue Ridge Boy Scout Council, which is based in Roanoke, Va.

Ms. Dowling, 21, started work at the scout office in Goldsboro April 4, but she officially finished moving into her new home Sunday.

She graduated summa cum laude from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga., with a bachelor's degree in math and a minor in biology.

As a senior in high school, she spent several days on a National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration ship anchored over Gray's Reef off the coast of Georgia as part of a student-at-sea program. She worked with the researchers pulling up samples from the bottom of the ocean to take chemical samples for tests.

She also participated in a research project to study and save loggerhead turtles.

She said her attention was drawn to the Boy Scouts in December at a career fair.

"It looked like a fun job, something I'd enjoy, all of it, from the fund-raising to working in summer camps," said Ms. Dowling. She will manage the Cubs day camp.

"I'm loving my job," she said. "I enjoy every minute of it. It's a lot of work, but it's a lot of fun."
