Man shot on city street

A 42-year-old Goldsboro man was shot several times Tuesday and then rammed his SUV into a porch and a tree, Goldsboro police reported.
The victim, Travis Lavoy Jenkins of East Walnut Street, was rushed by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was stabilized. Police said he was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital but a spokeswoman said there was no record of his admission to the Greenville hospital.
No one has been arrested for the shooting. Police Maj. Jay Memmelaar said investigators were following up good information in an attempt to locate a suspect. He would not say how the shooting happened until the investigation develops further. He said witnesses have been cooperative.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Investigator Dale Foster at 580-4217 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers might remain anonymous and might be eligible for a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest.
Jenkins was shot at about 3:55 p.m. at Kennon Court and Spruce Street, police said. The assailant, described only as a black man, fled.
Jenkins drove east on Spruce Street before losing control of the SUV at Spruce and South Virginia streets, police said.
The SUV ran off the right side, slammed into a porch at 300 S. Virginia St., ricocheted into a tree and stopped between the tree and a second tree. The first officer to arrive, Dave Cloutier, found Jenkins still seated in the car.
Goldsboro fire and rescue personnel assisted at the wreck.
The 1996 Jeep, valued at $6,000, was demolished. The vehicle was registered to Joann Carol Outlaw of Pink Hill. Damage was estimated at $1,500 to the porch at the vacant home, owned by David Webb.
