'Amnesty Day'
Saturday is "Amnesty Day" at the Wayne County Landfill.
The landfill will waive the tipping fees for all residents of Wayne County from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. to bring construction debris, wood, bricks, yard waste and other items for which it would normally charge.
"Amnesty Day" is meant to encourage residents to clean their personal properties. It is not open to commercial businesses and waste haulers.
Bloodmobiles
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Goldsboro Milling Co. and from 2 to 6:30 p.m. at the chapter house, 600 N. George St., by appointment only by calling 735-7201
Students to be honored
The Arts Council of Wayne County and Wayne County Public Schools will co-sponsor the annual Visual Arts Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 4, at 6 p.m., at the Arts Council, 2406 E. Ash St.
Approximately 40 students who have won awards in art competitions during the school year will be honored. Each student will be recognized and presented with a plaque by Dr. Steve Taylor, superintendent of Wayne County Public Schools. The students' families are invited to attend.
All art teachers will be recognized, and one will be selected to receive the Zeno Spence Art Educator of the Year Award. This annual award honors the art teacher who has exemplified professionalism in the classroom, with the Arts Council and in the community. Each year the award is presented in honor of Zeno Spence, a Goldsboro native and artist.
