Two Charles B. Aycock High School students have been charged with carrying a weapon on campus and two others face disciplinary action by the school.

Charged by Wayne County Sheriff's Office were Wesley Whitley, 18, and Spruce Lee, 17. They allegedly shot pellet guns on school grounds during a baseball game last week.

According to school officials, the students fired the guns in the direction of the press box at Thursday night's baseball game. Two other male students later came forward and admitted to involvement in the incident.

A pellet gun is considered a weapon but is not categorized as a firearm, said Kristy Fair, public relations officer for the school system. She said the gun fired plastic pellets and no injuries resulted from the incident.

All of the students will have to attend a hearing with school officials, she said, and could face long-term suspension or reassignment to an alternative school for the infraction.
