ROSEWOOD -- Gabe Hare has always thought pretty highly of singer Lee Greenwood.
He first heard Greenwood in Gatlinburg, Tenn., when he was 10 years old.
"I just like his singing," the Rosewood Middle School student said. "The way he dances around, he just looks like he has fun on stage."
His favorite song is "'Round Here," although there pretty much isn't much Gabe doesn't like about Greenwood's music. In fact, Gabe has met Greenwood, a couple of times, along with his parents, Vickie and Randy.
So, when the sixth-grader decided to study the trumpet this year, he recorded a few selections for his idol.
Off went the tape, complete with a note.
And this past Monday, Gabe got an answer -- coincidentally, right around the time of his 13th birthday.
Greenwood sent Gabe not only a selection of compact discs, but a personal note, thanking him for taking the time to record the trumpet solos.
For such a devoted fan, there could be no better birthday present.
And although the gifts were nice, Gabe still has a few things he would like to ask Greenwood, if he ever gets a chance to meet him again in person.
"If I could see his house," Gabe said. "And where he got the idea for 'God Bless the USA.'"
But for now, it is back to trumpet practice.
