Amy Scott to run for Wayne Clerk of Court

Amy Carter Scott, a trial coordinator for Superior Court in Lenoir and Greene counties for eight years, has announced that she will run as a Republican for the office of Wayne County Clerk of Court in 2006.
"Our state judicial system is one that is admired and copied by many throughout the nation," she said in a statement, "and the efficient and professional operation of our local judicial system plays a key role in the success of the state system.
"I plan to use my education and experience to enhance this efficiency and professionalism in the office of Clerk of Superior Court."
The current clerk, Marshall Minchew, has said he will not seek a third four-year term.
Mrs. Scott says that she has been exposed to all facets of court administration and resource management in her current job. She also has been a part-time instructor at the Goldsboro branch of N.C. Wesleyan College for about two years.
A life-long resident of Wayne County, Mrs. Scott graduated in 1986 from Southern Wayne High School. She graduated in 1991 from East Carolina University with high honors with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and in 2002 from Central Michigan University with a master's degree in administration. She is now working toward a master's degree in criminal justice with a specialization in judicial administration from Michigan State University.
Mrs. Scott serves as chairman of the New Hope precinct. She has been a member of the Conference of N.C. Judicial Support Staff for seven years. She has been a member of the N.C. Conference of Court Administrators for two years. She serves as judicial liaison for the Lenoir County Homeland Security Commit-tee.
Mrs. Scott and her husband, Andrew, have been married for 13 years and have two daughters.
"Public service is a vital component of fulfilling the many responsibilities entrusted to the clerk's office," Mrs. Scott said. "...Unfortunately, many people do not arrive at the courthouse under the best set of circumstances. I believe all people deserve, at a minimum, respect and fair treatment. ... I want everyone who comes into the Wayne County Clerk of Superior Court's office to receive the best possible service."
