Pickle found

Carver School second-grader Lucas McKay found a Mt. Olive Pickle that had been hidden at Prodigy Activewear on N.C. 55 east of Mount Olive. He said he received some help from his mother, Malia, and he found it after two weeks of clues were printed in Wayne County newspapers.

The pickle contest each year leads up to the N.C. Pickle Festival.

The downtown festival kicks off Friday with rides from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the corner of Main and Chestnut streets. On Friday night at the Mount Olive Airport, the gates will open at 7 p.m. for a concert by the Band of Oz from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Downtown events Saturday run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Singers on Friday

The Mount Olive College Singers' Spring Fling Concert is scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Olive Historic Assembly Hall on Wooten Street.

The theme for the performance is American Musical Theater and will feature popular songs from hit musicals, including "Anything You Can Do" from "Annie Get Your Gun," "There Is Nothing Like a Dame" from "South Pacific," "Another Op'nin', Another Show" from "Kiss Me Kate," "Try to Remember" from the "Fantasticks," "Not for the Life of Me" from "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and "Climb Every Mountain" from "The Sound of Music."

Solos and duets will be featured in addition to the performances by the entire troupe.

The event is free and the public is invited. For more information, contact Dr. Larry Oldham at 658-7184 or e-mail loldham@moc.edu.
