Robberies
A man and a restaurant were robbed Monday night, according to Goldsboro police reports.
William Arthur Dixon, 65, of Evergreen Avenue told officers that two young black men, one armed with a shotgun, approached his car in a convenience store parking lot at 601 E. Elm St. at about 11:35 p.m. The suspects got in the car and ordered Dixon to drive to Mina Weil Park, the report said. The suspects took $70 and Dixon's cell phone, valued at $50, and then ordered Dixon to drive to Harris and Franklin streets, the report said. They jumped out, and Dixon drove back to the convenience store and called police. The gunman, about 18, was described only as having worn a black hooded sweatshirt. The other man was described only as being about 18.
A man walked up to the drive-through window at the Central Park restaurant at 212 E. Ash St. at about 8:45 p.m., displayed a shotgun and demanded money. He grabbed the cash and ran away. The robber was described as about 18 years old, 5-feet-8 and 130 pounds with a slim build. He wore a blue hat and a camouflage jacket a pants.
Flim-flam
A woman says she gave a man a $12,000 check and $8,000 in cash to buy a mobile home, but she never received the title, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Marisa Cortes Maldonado of Seven Springs said she gave the money on June 9 to a man who called himself Pedro Loredo for a 1999 Redman double-wide home. She said Loredo told her that she would receive the title in the mail.
Ms. Maldonado said she was notified by a representative of Greenpoint, a credit company and the property owner, that the payment had not been received. Greenpoint, the report said, is repossessing the property.
Two injured
Two passengers were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 11:45 a.m. Monday at West Ash and North George streets, Goldsboro police reported. Bertha Coley, 50, and Sadie Farmer, 59, both of U.S. 70 West, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. They were riding with Arlethia J. Dixon, 53, of Odell Street.
The operator of a tractor-trailer, Aaron Andrew Goodrich, 63, of West Palm Beach, Fla., was charged with an improper turn. The report said Goodrich had started a right turn from the left lane of West Ash Street and the big rig collided with the van that Ms. Dixon was driving in the right lane. Damages were estimated at $400.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these larceny reports:
*An antique German World War II pistol, four shotguns, two rifles, a chain saw, a weed trimmer and three knives were stolen between January and Monday from a home in the 100 block of Pony Drive, deputies said. The resident, Robert Lamm, said the stolen property was valued at more than $5,975.
*About 200 DVDs, a DVD player, a laptop computer, three speakers, a cable box, a lawn mower, a leaf blower, a weed trimmer and a home console were stolen between March 16 and Tuesday from a storage building in the 1000 block of Bryan Boulevard, deputies said. The resident, Deborah B. Higgins, put a $5,214 value on the property.
*About $1,500, 10 compact discs and two DVDs were stolen between Sunday and Monday after a vehicle window was smashed in the 100 block of Livingston Drive, deputies said. The resident, Christopher L. Odum, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,690 and damage at $400.
*A 41-inch television, a DVD player and a small refrigerator were stolen between Saturday and Monday after a window was broken in a mobile home for sale at Life Style Homes at 6051 U.S. 70 East, deputies said. The property was valued at $2,000. Damage was put at $250.
Investigations
A woman was wounded Monday night as her husband cleaned a handgun, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Kathy A. Howell, 40, of Stronach Avenue was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokesman said. The case remains under investigation.
Police also are investigating these reports:
*A stereo system, a video cassette recorder and a DVD player were stolen between Friday and Monday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Astor Court, police said. The resident, J.D. Jennings, estimated the stolen property's value at $270 and damage at $120.
*A bracelet, a television and a video cassette recorder were stolen between Saturday and Monday from a home in the 600 block of East Mulberry Street, police said. The resident, Schwanda Thomas, put a $1,200 value on the property.
*A wallet with personal papers was stolen between Monday and dawn today after a car window was smashed in the 900 block of Poplar Street, police said. The driver, Kimberly Morris of Dudley, did not estimate a value of the stolen property. Damage was set at $100.
Fire
Unattended cooking was blamed Monday for a kitchen fire that filled an apartment at 103-C W. Lockhaven Drive with smoke but caused no damage, Goldsboro fire officials said.
The occupant was not immediately identified, Fire Lt. John Parks said. Six firefighters answered the 3:02 p.m. call with an engine and a ladder and ventilated the apartment and two adjacent units.
