The Boy Scouts' annual Distinguished Citizen Award banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Goldsboro Country Club.

People holding tickets who have not called in to RSVP are asked to call 734-1714 no later than noon Friday so that planners can have an accurate attendance estimate.

Lee Borden will receive the award.

Borden, a Goldsboro businessman, has long been involved with scouting, serving for many years in various capacities on the Tuscarora Council's board of directors. Borden also is a member of the council's advisory board and is an active member of the Troop Committee for Troop 7.

Borden earned his Eagle badge while a member of Troop 2. His son is now a member of the troop.

Proceeds from the sale of tickets go to the Council. Tickets are $200.

The banquet is the Scouts' biggest fund-raising event and last year brought in more than $94,000 to help pay for scouting activities.

Sherwin Herring was named the recipient of the Distinguished Citizen Award at last year's event.

Borden has been recognized for his volunteer efforts by several organizations.

He has received the Goldsboro Jaycees' Distinguished Service Award, the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce's Chairman's Award and has been named to the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the governor.
