The body of a 16-year-old Spring Creek High School student who drowned over the weekend has been found.
Officials say Jonathon Antwan Lewis' body washed ashore in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Wednesday afternoon.
Capt. David Knight of Myrtle Beach Police Department said the body was located on the beach about 5:15 p.m. in the area of 30th Avenue.
"A subject from the hotel looking out on the ocean saw something unusual," he said. The beach patrol was notified and officials were called to investigate. Lewis' body was taken to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Lewis was among 55 band students from the school attending a competition in Myrtle Beach last weekend. He was swimming in the ocean with several classmates late Saturday afternoon when he disappeared under the waves.
Efforts to save him failed and his body could not be found. A number of law enforcement and emergency agencies participated in the search.
A memorial service will be held at the school on Saturday morning at 11.
